For camera generally:
The camera has a metallic case, this case feels very high and makes an extremely robust impression. The feel and the design are excellent. The only drawback here is that there is only an ordinary lens cap when the objective lens and unfortunately no bladed shutter.
The swiveling display I can when shooting underwater, not use, but I have the camera in my heart that I closed it now often insets ashore ;-). The display is a high resolution and offers through the swivel and rotate more opportunities to use the camera creatively.
The controls are positioned very good and as usual Canon. Anyone who has worked with Canon cameras will find their way quite quickly that also applies to find their bearings in the program menu of the camera.
The camera is rather a large Compact does not bother me, as a high-quality part I do not like anyway so stuck in your pocket, for me no criticism.
The adjustment possibilities offered by this camera, a DSLR are after barely. If you look at dealing with the camera and with photography in general something achieved excellent control over the image results. But what in the case of the G1X does not speak against the use of the automatic programs. My wife uses the camera only in the automatic programs and I have many a time squinting enviously on the results and wondered why a DSLR carrying around with me. ;-)
Now to ensure "fast" main part of the evaluation.
Image quality:
I think you suspected it already, I love this camera and this is a fairly large proportion of the image quality. That's just great, as here so many have already wrote in the other reviews is the quality due to the larger sensor and the finely tuned lens to zoom, the results can be achieved with semi-professional or even professional cameras in conjunction with high-quality lenses. If I do not use the G1x because as my wife does not rausrückt ;-) I fotgrafiere with a Nikon D7100 and I really have to admit that the image quality is comparable to a large extent.
Videos I do not usually, I tried it but even here and can see the results thoroughly. What all this with so nem small part is possible today ........................
Well ....... without criticism it goes but not ............
For me as Unterwasserfotgraf it would have been very desirable if a real macro setting on the camera would have been possible.
It goes by but some time until the camera after tripping is ready for use again. (I use the RAW format)
that was it but also already ........
All other things being addressed often times related to the G1X, as the battery power and the autofocus are for me not sooo important, I'm doing shooting sport he prefers to my D7100.
