* If possible, large image sensor, ie a minimum of 1 / 1.7 "
* Wide least 28mm, but 24mm possible
* Fast aperture, max. Aperture possible 2.0 or better
* Lightweight, ie max. 250 g
* Compact, ie as low as possible below 40 mm
Off the grid all Canon IXUS models fall, therefore, only a small 1 / 2.3 "sensor is installed. Something should, in my opinion, when then found only in mobile phones / smartphones use.
The following cameras I have then compared (model, sensor size, lens aperture and -Brennweite, dimensions, weight (ready for operation, ie including SD card and battery), Approx purchase price.):
* Canon S110, 1 / 1.7 ", 24-120mm, 2.0 to 5.9 99/59 / 27mm, 198g, 220 ~
* Canon S120, 1 / 1.7 ", 24-120mm, 1.8 to 5.7 100/59 / 29mm, 217g, 410 ~
* Panasonic Lumix LF 1, 1 / 1.7 ", 28-200mm, 2.0 to 5.9, 102/62 / 28mm, 192g, 360 ~
* Nikon P330, 1 / 1.7 ", 24-120mm, 1.8 to 5.6, 103/58 / 32mm, 200g, 240 ~
* Fuji XF 1, 2/3 ", 25-100mm, 1.8 to 4.9, 108/62 / 33mm, 204g (battery +), ~ 280
* Fuji XQ 1, 2/3 ", 25-100mm, 1.8 to 4.9 100/59 / 33mm, 206g, 400 ~
* Sony RX100, 1 ", 28-100mm, 1.8 to 4.9, 102/58 / 36mm, 240g, ~ 410
All 7 cameras fulfill my needs and I think that makes a really bad buy with none. My personal favorite was actually the Sony RX100 with its outstanding high-intensity Zeiss lens (1.8 to 4.9) as well as the great, huge for compact cameras, 1 "image sensor.
And why it is now the Canon S110 become:
=============================================
My real favorite, the Sony RX100, is in this comparison, the largest and heaviest camera with 36mm installation depth and 240g. In addition, the wide-angle lens begins at 28mm.
The Canon S110 is against it with only 27mm the slimmest and 198g with one of the lightest cameras, also the zoom lens starts at 24mm on already.
Therefore, I have Canon, Nikon and Panasonic cameras in use I did not want even one additional operating concept.
A perusal of the user reviews and then also the currently very favorable price of only about 220 have been buying decision.
The Canon S110 in use:
==========================
The S110 makes a very robust impression here was not simply the cheapest of the cheap but built solid materials as you would expect from a high-quality compact.
The service is great. Who has served a Canon cope right away. Sure, there are a lot of great features, with which you can deal, the feature set is simply enormous. I just miss nothing, and the operation is really fun.
However, I recently had in the dark with the autofocus problems, but most likely was due to the deactivated AV-assist illuminator. I'll test it again, because the user meisst's the problem ;-)
The results speak for themselves anyway. Sure, my Lumix LX3, is here and there a bit better, but minimal and this camera is in a different class, that is actually, because of their size and weight no "Always-In-Camera".
Accessories:
========
Attention! The Canon Original Case DCC-1900 is clearly not recommended!
The leather and the workmanship are okay, but the fit is not, the S110 has around some mm margin. Thus, the camera is not super-compact more and the handling of the bag is quite cumbersome. Sorry, but completely ill-conceived.
Then I bought a Cullmann Granada Compact 150. Cullmann-typically well made and absolutely precisely fits the S110 (almost a mm too tight, which are, however, after a short use). We recommend.
Conclusion:
======
The Canon S110 can I really recommend with a clear conscience. A compact "Always-In-Camera" has this name deserves and delivers a great quality.
That cost more than 400 this camera I find quite justified; the successor model S120 is also there, and it is the almost identical camera, without a real advantage to offer.
The S110 is equipped with a current price of only ~ 220 a super cheap deal and therefore a strong buy recommendation!
