First something about the positive qualities of the band:
Basically, the idea is very good. Record sleep and exercise, possibly also the meals and then the whole record in the app, archive and evaluate.
The software is very good. You can, for example, with Runkeeper (but also other apps) connect and counts steps and calories then not twice. The sleep detection seemed to me to be quite realistic, and to get a Smart Alarm (wake in a light sleep phase) as well as a reminder if you have not moved the longer option is also great. Overall, I had the impression that the software was very well thought out. Well, one option for an evaluation on the PC would have been nice, but basically I can do without it if I get all clearly displayed on the smartphone.
Also for the first time hardware was really great: The step count was set well with respect to unpack the stride. The ability to calibrate the precision was increased even further. The wearing comfort was very pleasant. After some getting used to the band was no longer felt. The synchronization worked in 90% of cases immediately. In other cases I can achieve synchronization after one off and then plug in. In the time of my use, the battery life was not entirely up to 10 days, but the battery was stable at about 8 days. More about this later.
The large but comes in durability. A brief history:
The first revision of the bracelets was taken by the manufacturers from the market after massive customer complaints arose over failures. The tape was then revised and brought back to the market. At the time of my purchase (end of June), I get the second version of the bracelet. Since I had informed me before, but not so many reviews to the second revision templates, I once believed that the errors were corrected. Nevertheless, I decided to treat the tape very carefully in order to exclude all potential confounders can.
The band I have ever taken in the shower, as well penetrating water was responsible for the failure in the first version in part. When washing hands, I made sure to let as come to the pushbutton no water. The battery I loaded once when synchronizing the capacity goes below ~ was 15-20%, to prevent too deep discharge. That, I thought, was to protect the battery. (I also did not know whether the battery was controlled in any way and which battery chemistry uses it.) I have exposed the band maybe two or three times stronger torsion, but otherwise it was not overused closer. Overall, I think I was very, very carefully and that I was more cautious than I should have been according to the manufacturer. The fact is, for example. On, the device is splash-proof, which at least could possibly be too little protection while showering a bit.
My precautions have probably brought me a little longer. After about 8 weeks use it was still over. In the morning everything was still working perfectly and I could sync my sleep recording. Sometime in the morning I have to check whether really the day mode was turned on, and the band was dead. Shop did not help, synchronization is not possible. Hard- and soft reset did not help.
After a brief search, the support and return policy of Jawbone presented then this way:
- There are again lots of complaints of dissatisfied users whose band after a relatively short time gives up the ghost. These are replaced relatively quickly.
- The support is friendly, but ultimately answers only with text modules á la "we thank you for your feedback and guide the further". Not helpful.
- Jawbone exchanges if you have purchased the product through its own shop, from (I think) 60 days only with a new appliance. Purchase price refunds are not.
- The accumulated failures seem to refer back to the battery and possibly water.
My Conclusion:
- Those who are curious and want to try it anyway with the Up, should buy on Amazon because there kulantere Return Policy.
- The price is basically no problem, because it puts a lot of brain power behind the evaluation and presentation of results. The whole worth nothing, if the tape is dying in record time. It's incredible shame to mess up a really very successful product by a design flaw.
- It can not be that, while relatively easy to get a replacement, but it is clear from day 1 that even this will soon give up the ghost. (I have seen the tape accidental nor with someone else who told me he had now arrived at the fourth band - he always makes sure not to leave it too wet becoming.)
- The reviews at the time of my purchase did not deal with the question of whether the tapes were wordne claimed too much or incorrect. I can say from personal experience you now: Even if one treats the bracelet like a raw egg, it will probably soon cease to function relatively (!).
