The Other Side (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Anyone familiar with the biography of David Crosby a bit, who knows what price you pay, if you are always in the fast lane, "a foot on the accelerator and the other in the grave" to talk with Tom Petty's words. Chris Hillman knows the mechanisms of business just too good to be their destructive violence suspend a lifetime. His latest work, "The Other Side" is by no means another bluegrass album, but the incarnation of what could guess his best vocal and instrumental performances by groups like the Byrds or the Flying Burrito Bros.: a gentle folk album with soft tones, never shallow and always very tasty. He does not relies on the conventional vied games with highly decorated luminaries of the relevant genre, but more on the relaxed, but extremely dense atmosphere, comparable to his "Morning Sky" album. The choice was rather unknown sideman makes here a positive impact. His own material in this case has a dimension of depth, with which one had not expected after so many years of routine. "Touch Me" comes as one of the most personal lyrics that has since musical gems such as "All Alone" or "Let Me Down Easy" heard of him. All in all a very reassuring, perhaps even salutary contribution to all the media hype, the music industry nowadays feels obliged to draw attention to themselves.
