This new series is going on in Macedonia early 20th century. The author evokes the harsh realities of the country at this time as the raids comitadjis and vendettas. However, it also refers to affectionately beauty of the country and members of his family. One can speak of ambivalence towards this country. On the one hand, the author recalls the multi-cultural character of the Macedonian society of that time and shows that a "living together" was possible. On the other hand, it highlights the fragility of sad this society where we no longer clear who represents the order. The atmosphere of the stories in this collection reminded me of the movie Before the Rain. An excellent book for anyone interested in the Balkans
