Pros:
+ Excellent image quality
Here there is absolutely nothing to complain about. The images are sharp crack, even when the margins just be a little softer at open aperture.
+ Processing / haptics
As with all Fujinon lenses that I held so far in his hand, stands out even the 18mm by a very good quality impression. Nothing wobbles or creaks. It seems durable and aperture and focus ring run the way it should be. Great!
+ Luminous intensity
The maximum aperture (F2.0) enables a nice potential exemption. While here would certainly have been possible but for the compact design is perfectly fine
+ Focal length!
The converted on small format 27mm correspond to the so-called "reportage-Wide". The lens is thus a true all-rounder. Especially for street photography, focal lengths of 30mm have proven since they represent a pleasant view. Both narrower streets and more specific scenes can be captured well. For me, a definite plus!
+ Compact!
One of the biggest advantages of the 18mm F2 well! Thanks to its compact dimensions, it turns a Fuji X-E1 or X-Pro1 in size in a compact camera. A compact camera with excellent picture quality DSLR-level course.
Cons:
- Price
The 18mm is priced with current ~ 550 EUR (as at 01/2014) on par with the more intense 35mm F 1.4, the currently ~ 580 EUR to be called. Here, then, must be thoroughly weighed up whether the compact dimensions which after 3 stops Aperture (f 2.0 -> 1.8 f -> f 1.6 -> F.14) outweigh. However, those who prefer the 18mm due to its focal length, can overlook certain on this point. In general, the price argument does not lead to star deduction.
Conclusion:
The XF 18mm F2 is an interesting fixed focal length in Fuji-portfolio! (! And weight) The report focal length paired with the excellent image quality and small dimensions make this lens an ideal travel companion - for example, on city trips. From me there is therefore a smooth buy recommendation!
