Customer Review

Update: a few days ago, the update set on Android 4.4.2 KitKat at my TF701, very nice. If it's because by running times (takes a little) you have a whole new much nicer - and more intuitive interface. Multiuser is now so really;. O) and various small gadgets / Quick settings are now over "from the top right Wipe" available from "upper middle wipe" it just comes down to rebar. The System menu has become much clearer. In "menu Drawer" you can now sort by "Downloaded" and "all" - here there is finally released the gallery - which become even more nimble actual again. All Basic tools of Android have received a rejuvenation, the icons look current from, the whole "visual concept" is now much more coherent (for my feeling).

Personally, I find with 4.4.2 to run the intermediate animation (Drawer with Appstart etc) not quite as smooth as it was the case in 4.3, which will promptly resolve Expected by some update. Otherwise, I can highly recommend the update to KitKat

Update: The last firmware update shall entail that equipment is much cooler looking at surf & Video, improved! Battery life (not tested exactly, but should have a significant impact because much less heat is produced). The .17 * the over the air was distributed where Android has 4.3 pulled a 250MB update and the system offset in a boot freeze, unfortunately, could only bring recovery to run again (on 4.2.2 .... and then the update manually from the Tour ASUS Server = (

Hi,

ASUS has probably done right here almost everything. I myself come directly from an ASUS Transformer TF300T (incl. Keydock, Tegra3, Android 4.2.x, 1GB RAM, 1280x800er display) and since this device I want to buy myself no tablet without optional Keydock more. The TF701 has the following data: Tegra4, Android 4.2.x, 2GB RAM, 2560 x 1600 display. I write deliberately Tablet - I 8.x Tablets'm faced relatively open (without RT) also compared to Windows and it would have been almost anything else, but I am glad that I have Android still given a chance. Apple I leave before the outside here, the equipment I have not in use.

[GENERAL TO transformers and tablets]
To the 499 euro (as of 11/2013) are quite a lot of dollars that are invested in a relatively "weak" platform, with enough memory (2GB RAM, 32GB flash memory) and a Keydock can leave conflicting impressions. Through the technology still relatively mobile tinged (processor / graphics card) and the GUI (graphical user interface) implementation, which is behind, media / internet - to consume on a very different path than on a conventional laptop / desktop or mobile phone make this whole Disadvantages, however, more than off. I write not only so, now you can actually let the laptop / PC, the predecessor that was not always the case, though the Tegra3 was also a 4-core, but somehow real "slower" than many cell phone.

The device can consume really insanely good any content, be it videos, images, music or podcasts, spwoe any websites that show off recyclable or of interest to the User Content. Since the killer displays like this one can certainly also well analyze images and read especially well relative fatigue longer texts (help "DISPLAY" more).

The use case (if one's even out has) very intuitive, you will interact via Mousepad / buttons and touch with the network, just as one is just the opinion, to reach his goal. That makes a desktop PC or laptop this conventional device classes (ASUS was quasi pioneer? Yes Microsoft Surface and the HP Slate the book) so nobody after. Sure, there are now also many Windows 8.x models have touchscreens, and the laptop is on the rise, but at a higher price range and usually accompanied by inferior application speed.

Even people who "this Internet" something Argwöhnig face because they have nothing in the rule with computers on their hats, and the "just look where" or "googling" foreign words are so better come clear. As an example, my parents (go to 55 to), I have times a GalaxyTab (3G) bought some furnishings (News Apps etc.) and since they are "online" - all day, and even chat) exchange information / images and consume websites with usable and engaging content. Buy now even just so online one, not at QVC or catalog, but to brand new low prices, or sell old stuff on the net. And why? Because they can, and it simply and intuitively - at least if the whole was somewhat explains - is also really easy. On HTPC / laptop it never became really hot so.

Apart from consuming content (based on music, videos, news, lyrics, forums, wiki's, etc.) can be obtained by the KeyDock really good Interact, be it in forums, or simply to chat. Super dissolved, gone are times where you had to write with the touch screen no desire to longer texts and the communication is terminated, or the Bluetooth keyboard, which lies somewhere in the backpack again gives up the ghost because the battery is empty. I think here you get an "all in one" solution, which is still discreetly Expandable even (USB HUB, external memory, Bluetooth ... Miracast, HDMI) that works the way Keydock continue even if the battery is empty.

Tablets generally are therefore already a great thing. I but only since the generations fast / newer QuadCore think (4 cores) and 2GB of RAM can fully recommend this, really to use web sites in the desktop (not limited mobile) mode. In older models, you need a large Snickers stock (because it's once again takes longer). These new tablets here are really fast that Nexus10 shows here already that it really goes.

[INTRODUCTION]
Since the predecessor TF300T time was a little slow (and I'm just very spoiled in terms of speed), I wanted a new device. Actually intensified since the day that I, the Google Nexus could 10 test in direct comparison with the TF300T, not only the much higher resolution display (madness), but above all the endless better performance have it done to me here and at one time I wanted with the TF300T make do not really long. First World Problems - honest, but what can you do. The TF300T can also surf well, it only takes just a little longer sometimes.

NVIDIA (which the Tegra3 producing) have made with said processor in my view quite a deep toilet handle, since Powerful (if any) with respect to a 2-core processor from other manufacturers and even the Tegra2 was this really is not, except vllt. in specially adapted games. In fact, there are / were very quick 2 core phones and tablets more efficient than Tegra3 with its 4 cores. I rose from Tegra2 (Dual Core) to the Tegra3 (Quad Core) and expected "twice the performance" yes er - Nope. I refer to the statement on application performance and let games on the sidelines.

[ALTERNATIVE]
Now there stood some (Android and Windows) alternatives in the area, particularly the HP Slate Book X2 which was advancing more and more affordable than the TF701 Available in EU, similar to the TF701 ASUS with the Tegra4 processor (HP slower because lower to 100Mhz / core overclocking), 2GB RAM and 16GB memory equipped, however the rear of plastic (which is actually ok), a "only" 1920x1080p display (would have been enough to me, this is but have a yellowish tinge and can not be really bright) possibly negligible worse cameras and a much larger charger, so a brick, so as with laptops, well ok then there is no HP Slate Book. On Toshiba I do not set, therefore their Tegra4 were models outside right in front (also "only" 1.8Ghz, heat problems, Brick as power supply). Other manufacturers had nothing like it, and I also came very brooding at ASUS T100 (Windows 8.1), because the device is really wonderful as well. The available Lenovo Yoga's are too slow, but also interesting what tasted as Lenovo. New: Medion Akoya P2211T a real Windows Alternative (Quad Core, 2GB, 64GB memory FullHD + 500GB HDD similar price, 2 "larger) not gabs then, and well as Windows 8.x said I did not.

But I have struck again at ASUS, after I was able to collect very good experiences with the TF300T, which is also the outstanding service at the expense because the manufacturer has changed my device easily and without proof of purchase (display errors) .The TF300T ran 1a (if even slowly) like all other ASUS products in the past to have, so I associate with ASUS quality, professional equipment and continual support, because the TF300T's also recently announced again until an update to Android 4.2.x without something abut manually. No I'm not working with them!

The tablet was used with little delay at my house on (Amazon parcels lasted more than a year ago, only about 2 days as a "non-prime customer", today there are 3 to 4) Now, for the service fits hopefully.

[Packing]
I have to unpack, the packaging falls flatter than its predecessor, and was thrilled. A Allu back tablet, a beautiful OVP, super. ASUS could have used in the packaging like PVC may instead resort to cardboard (here makes the Sony better, at least current Sony products always came with a lot of cardboard and recycled paper). Sure, the drop in the ocean, but if it can, it should try all the greats at least.

Packets (but longer than the TF300T not valent) is only a warranty card, a mini Manual, a charger, the charger itself (somehow exactly the same as the old), the tablet and the Keydock. More is not necessary, at least not when you're in a position to set the national language and to connect with its wireless, the rest is done - Android typical - even Techie view very intuitive. I think well even my parents would deal with it. The tablet comes already eye invite (to 50 - 70%) to.

For keyboard, because I had doubts when I saw the first to (unboxing / test) videos and images with all EN dealers, the Enter key so small oh Graus, but fortunately ASUS has here probably just the QWERTY keyboard (international ) swapped with a slightly different layout, so smaller Enter key and Y and Z, and div. displayed small differences. Also on the cover of my product TF701T with DE Layout is displayed an International Dock. Fortunately this is not so, the old keyboard from the TF300 is almost the same (see customer images). Ä Ö Ü and so there is here again;) and the large enter key.

[The tablet]
feels smaller, lighter and valent as the TF300T, compared to rubberized Nexus10 but it's not as tacky feel, as well as - Allu - but still holds very well in the hand. Infinity and TransformerPrime customers will know the feeling is very equal. It is also pretty cool, if you have sensitive fingers and it's cold, then you fässt a cold tablet on. A matte rubber as in Nexus10 would halt have been nice, but that Allu looks very good and fässt Also otherwise wertig on, it does not slip out of your hands. The gap dimensions of the device give no reason for deficiency (refer to other recessions and "early adopters"). The Alluminium the TF701T is darker than the TF700infinity (predecessor). Halos at all black image I perceive only the boot screen or a Screentestapp that but almost all devices (all black, backlight, on the edge lighter "spots") with my it's no problem at all.

[THE DISPLAY]
I am relatively pampered, but you can see major differences and a real leap forward. I write the following comparisons deliberately go there, so that one can deduce whether it is worthwhile for oneself. I use a 1920x1080p 5 phone, in this I see (in terms of edges / stairs / pixel) clearly no difference to 1280x720p 5 phone, except with a magnifying glass. The 10 devices I have to say, 1280x800 pixels (TF300 example) are nice, but compared to 1920x1080p (TF700 / Infinity) clearly visible.

2560x1600 pixels at 10 (as it has installed the TF701T) is indescribable crisp / sharp / crisp, here the imagery must also play. I think, however, FullHD (1080p) is sufficient for a 10 unit, is all about marketing, in my view, because there are also many other factors that make up a good display (contrast, brightness, frame rate, color fidelity, viewing angle, etc.). Some say, however, they see that there is more than FullHD, well, probably. are my eyes early 30s but already bad, everyone has to look for yourself if it arises.

In other words: The display on the TF701T is one with which the Nexus 10 and the OPPO Find5, HTC One and current Apple display to the really best I've ever seen. In terms of color fidelity, viewing angles, resolution. The TF701T can be really bright (with brightness boost function for external mode) lighter than the Nexus 10. This option is a bit hidden in the display menu to find, I was surprised how bright it can be (by this boost). A Quick Link to this would be nice.

In the main screen (not in the Settings) is a tool called Splendit, here you can adjust the color saturation of all colors, contrast and brightness individually using a slider with different test patterns! I know that as of any Android device, as always there were only 3 or 4 presets. Super nice feature and really should be standartisiert.

[THE KEYDOCK]
fässt on rougher than its predecessor, is subtly styled nice (flat) but otherwise largely the same. The key travel is slightly different, still getting used to, which was the TF300T somehow "crisp". Personally, I therefore find the TF701 Keydock something inferior. A lit "CAPSLOCK" button like the old Keydock not exist. The SD memory card, USB and power go "crisp" pure as the TF300T, but it is by no means unschaffbar as putting a stick on it. Funny, when I went out to get my SD card, she flew ersmal loose 1m away, because it is very rausgeschnippst Doll from the card reader) needs to be considered out before, not that one flies off the SD card. It seems to me the way in front as if the Keydock not easily tip backwards, the predecessor felt anything much more time on their backs.

+ Very nice: The card reader and USB in Keydock now also works if the battery runs out of Keydock that was not the TF300T!

[PERFORMANCE]
if you come from Android, succinctly just amazing! So the Nexus 10 is already pretty fast (the 2012 version), so really fast for an android, but this one is almost instant (no power saving). Who knows Youtube should times Nexus10 vs slate book x2 enter, there's a browser test, so it feels really. The Nexus10 is very fast, you should keep in mind.

The Amazon Appstore runs smoother than on other devices (the jerky even on the Snapdragon801). Browser, Youtube, Feedly, everything goes on instant, and has extremely low - to no waiting times, it loads so long to the animation "homescreen off application as" lasts. Multitasking works great. Shortcuts for div. Applications such as computer etc also exist. One can in the browser tabs 30 (in the desktop mode) open at a time and back and forth between those freak, everything works as it should. I connected a USB mouse and can use the device as a surf station, without having any disadvantages (apart from non-customized web sites do not support the embedded flash videos because you have on the mobile side draw).

ASUS seems to have also managed to build in at last more powerful internal memory. The predecessor (TF300) was extremely slow (even slower than SD memory card), the built-in memory is very fast here, which probably affects the entire system performance lasting positive. When copy / paste from USB / network / SD to internal memory you realize the extremely deutlichst. Very nice :)

Card Reader: Irritating fast microSDHC cards, the SD card reader in Keydock also, USB3.0 Stick runs extremely fast (Copy / Paste> 20MB / s) more accurate data followed by synthetic benchmarks soon whether USB3 works when the Keydock is empty (with a USB flash drive), I do not know yet.

[Software]
Again, something did, the ASUS floor Launcher is beautiful, the BACK / MENU / FLIP buttons (all software buttons) are located in the center on the lower side, the old ASUS Launcher I found beautiful, there were the bottom left and with Thumb in Landscape better achieved fashion.

The Goodies: Wipe from top to bottom (in the middle, left or right side) and you come to a shortcut menu. Here are among others: Quick Links to Wifi GPS Bluetooth and Co on / off switch, the instant access to energy saving modes and what really cool new: you can activate a read mode by QuickLink, here the display fits a bit of the colors here and the brightness so surf is really fun (if you're focusing on lyrics). An instant dictionary You can also access. Further down old acquaintances - regulate the display brightness or to automatically regulate, including a quick access to Wi-Fi's, and something new, quick access to the AudioWizard / equalizer. The works 1a and the audio power saving mode, the tablet may sound really bad) when you get over to Movie / Music or whatever, it's beautiful. In addition, one finds for wireless connection to "smart TV" a Miracast client.

[MULTI-TASKING]
can be obtained from any normal non-fullscreen app (ie everything except games) start out small apps, like the Audio Wizard, or a calculator that runs in the "Split Screen" to open the app, quasi picture in picture. Here are preinstalled: AudioWizzard, calculator, dictionary, video player, converter, timer, stopwatch, compass and you can still add that.

Cool thing, I've been missing when Android, other manufacturers may have been for the Tegra2 tablets (eg Sony)
Real Multitasking is worlds better than on Tegra3, ie liquid exchange open programs without any problems.
Display brightness, unfortunately somewhat hidden is the Super IPS + mode, the there were in Infinity. Here the display is again a lighter eating. Go to the menu display, with brightness, there is the point "external mode" makes purely a hook and let dazzle you. I think there is really useful later.

[Bluetooth / GPS / USB3 / WLAN]
Everything works without problems, but I do not understand that here Bluetooth version 3.0 plug in there, nVIDIA would quietly like may put on 4.0, the standard there are now long (and very little peripheral for, but have a 4.0 speaker). USB3.0 is very fast, external 2.5 "HDD are powered by Keydock, much faster than TF300

Wifi is very good, ASUS had indeed times problems TF201 is why the complete Alluminiumrückseite got on the camera in the following models a plastic cap, behind which the WLAN antennas stuck and now can spark without problems.

[CAMERA]
The triggers slightly less than its predecessor (8MP gegegn 5MP) and makes photos, lightning does not exist, well. I tried it in artificial light, so goes to just "something" to send a picture of or to take a snapshot, it is sufficient. The camera at the TF300 was great in the bright (outdoors), certainly is the TF701 camera that also, the front camera is sufficient for video chat out, Hangouts and Skype will have no problems. But why spoil Hersteler here no wide-angle lenses is questionable, first one would even look thinner (haha;)) but secondly and the really important point, you would not be "the whole picture". I understand that until now not really (even with Front mobile cameras).

[UPDATES]
The tablet is quite new, for the first units shipped, there was an update which issues the Keydock has been corrected, the subsequent update already includes the current Android 4.3 (I've received on the 15th of November, it is officially been announced for the 18th of ASUS). Wonderful;) I hope the predecessor (Tegra3) still get support now. Performance is felt better, it is not so warm as before -dadurch it consumes probably even a tick less energy, I can not yet assess as accurately.

[OTHER]
The device is of course warm when it is required. If it is in the upper left side Keydock is touched from behind at least noticeably warmer than the rest of the unit. But that is all still absolutely in the frame and it is not appropriate hot (like the Toshiba devices that should really have a few more top Kelvin). It holds up well in hand, by actually ugly broad black borders around the display is running at large / thick fingers do not risk accidentally toddle in Tablet mode the screen and to change anything. Apple here has a "misentry recognition" on the iPad Air, all well, but then still keep to yes, the display on; o) so I think it's not so bad (the wide edge) but functional.

HDMI scaling: the work is not in the OS, my Full HD television shows edges and I can not change but if I start a video on Youtube that the edges are gone and all scaled as it should. Rocket science! When I had TF300 for software updates edges even with video, the TF701 only when no video. I hope this will be rectified.

Update: [Miracast]
Miracast is picture and sound from your smartphone, tablet PC or laptop regardless of the device manufacturer to smartTVs or projectors (or the TF701) transferred. Previous solutions, however, are self-contained, such as Apple Airplay or Intel Wireless Display (WiDi). In other words, I can live image stream from my phone to the TF701, TF701 or from the television, or from phone to TV or projector, etc.

Since my new TV is smart I had to try it. Vornweg, it has for me a beta status than ordinary users, because the connection takes a long time (5 - 20sec) and you have delay of about 1 second. If it's because running times (with the LG 47LA6918) you have on the television image, what you see on your tablet, virtually a clone, as with HDMI cables -only without cable. Unfortunately, the right and left corners cut off (black bars) which will be due to the TF701 brings a higher resolution than the TV with its 1920x1080.

However, once you start a video on YouTube or a video player on the Transformer, the picture on the television in FULL and with Audio is up to 5.1 (ie no DTS!) Display and without borders! Here, however, is not a video image on the TF701 but only a preview, for example if you have open Youtube, the video plays on the TV - and can be seen in Youtube for more videos Search ... FullHD video Inthalte (eg MKV) plays quite well from almost liquid and, if you rewind round begins between there's times to stutter on, the case of extremely elaborate Sczenen (big explosions etc) can and will come to stuttering. This is but eh no use because every Smart TV also DLNA capable and the contents can drag yourself "without any lag" from the data source.

Skype: goes well, I suddenly a huge girlfriend) is quite funny, thereby saving you the additional camera for Skype's SmartTV device which is also disproportionately expensive.

Tim Cook said the way once, we should make no Tablets PCs and PCs from any tablets. He had to the Transformers "slower" because surely somewhere right, but also had the clear advantages and raisons d'être. ASUS has partnered with the TF701 surpassed in my eyes itself and has finally arrived where you wanted with the first Transformers out of the Transformer TF701T is more of a Performer701 as a Transformer;) But just as it is true and is there a, a very fast convenient device with alongside excellent battery life,

[BATTERY]
In tablet itself is a 7820mAh battery, the Keydock an additional 4170mAh battery. Thus, the tablet will probably run around the 11h recharge with the Keydock the 17h according to Asus, I arrived at 14h (after the first, brightness 40% - 75%, Battery in Keydock, intelligent energy saving on, Partial read mode, always-Fi, now and Bluetooth). I turn on my device the way out if I do not use it a long time (at night, on the way to work, etc.) eventually I have to rethink, a startup probably uses more power than deep standby. LiIon batteries have their full capacity but only after the first 10 or 20 charging cycles.

Per
+ Price / performance compared to other models (incl. Keydock for 499 to release!)
+ Obtained a German keyboard layout =)
TOP + display (also in Super IPS mode Outdoor) can you activate the menu
+ Performance is incredible, so should each tablet running with more than 2 cores
+ Shortcuts / menu structure is very well laid out and intuitive
+ Volume is passable, at full volume, it can "rattle" but honestly tablet ..
+ More logical arrangement of the Power / Volume keys and AUX / jack
+ Card Reader in Keydock now works at 0% Keydock battery
+ The keyboard typing faster and more unerringly than predecessors
+ The touchpad buttons have discontinued no physical "Left / Right" mouse buttons more that goes into each other now, I find better

Con
- Keyboard Dock is by no means bad, but possibly worse than its predecessor (Infinity) in terms of quality and appearance, not a contradiction to PRO
- Why is virtually standard NFC not on board (gimmick but nice 2 have)
- Why is the touchpad again just so small, here you can still make great
- Too much plastic in the packaging, a matter of opinion it bothers me
- The Keydock is sometimes unexpectedly empty (the tablet charges 70% "empty" always to fully apparently)
- A rubber foot from Keydock from the slide went over the table (can be easily reconnect the'll probably stick)
- Update on 10.14.1.28 brings a bootloop, here you have to use Factory Reset, shame

x finally a backlit keyboard for Transformer!
x a much larger touchpad
x possibly touchpad on the back of tablet (like the G2 or oppo N1)
x alternative MicroUSB port for charging (even if it lasts)
x a dongle for Keydock to even with his existing Keydock remotely control via Bluetooth if it clamps the tablet eg on television one probably, something comes out yes as an extra? So indeed go with the phone but ... yes that would ultimately somehow

Alternatives:
If I were not willing to 499 euros to spend, would Androidbasierend of the ASUS TF103 interesting (also very fast, but not so class display and only 1GB of memory, no battery in Keydock)

HP Slate Book X2, see notes above (a bit slower, lower quality and even "only" Full HD display, plastic back, power supply is a "power brick", even worse cameras, it is HP's first netbook with Android, Price is / was the same (hence fall's with me at least flat) But what about something more stylish

Toshiba has probably Tegra4 tablets but have a heat problem Keydocks exist for these models do not (only BT keyboards) where I've noticed that.

Galaxy Nexus10 2013 3GB RAM, should probably be even faster, but does not transform itself, and Samsung I do not like by the update policy as damaged ex Galaxy S2 users also so much, but) as a device I had never in his hand so far

ASUS even with the ASUS T100 Tablet and Windows 8.1 + Office license which also number 2 (Display worse), the greatest rival in the Windows area clearly the Medion Akoya P2211T (Google for Test Search) the part is really great and the best
