The castle is nicely varied designed with its towers, including windows, the drawbridge, the throne and numerous details and features like small niches, treasure hiding place, the fireplace and the cannon, extensively equipped, offering a number of great games for children from 2 years (this is the official recommendation on the package), where some children earlier, others will be maybe a little later on the necessary design / interest level if necessary. Succeeded I find especially the toddler friendly pretty colorful coloring of the whole sets (while real castles yes sometimes can slightly gray and dreary act). The figures are beautifully printed and all have friendly facial expressions. (Recognizable by the arms, the castle emblem and the flag), while the other two Knights of the Eagle Order, who have come with horses and cannon, it is the king of the castle and one of the knights are the way to the lion-Order itself have taken on the task of attacking the castle. Who wins in the end and what's happening in the meantime, the child's fantasy is all up. The scale of the Eagle Knights hearth suggests that the siege might even drags until the donee with this set child comes to school (age 5 years) ...
Given this situation, I have wondered why the castle now is unpopular compared to said Duplo competition at parents apparently (once you look at the sales ranks). Is it perhaps to the at first glance perhaps dangerous acting gun? All I can say again that there really is no need to worry, because the arrow well padded and front also is much too large in diameter to fly a child z. B. eye also to find more child-friendly shooting tools in other Duplo sets (including in Pirate Ship Bucky and adventure in the Batcave), so that the castle Cannon is not unique in this regard. Is it then so rather in the subject matter per se? For me not really imagine, because castles and knights have always been popular with both boys and girls, are even in times of LEGO Star Wars still a nice scenario for imaginative play and in recent years also in view of the popularity of The Lord of the have Rings, The Hobbit or even (adults only!) Game of Thrones hardly lost its appeal.
Maybe that (sales figure technical) problem of large castle Burg's that have no female characters are included - at least what I personally find very sad! Castles and knights and yet they were never really a pure boys theme, so why there are no women? The whole thing would have to get over to some extent, if at least would be in the supplementary sets (treasure robbery and Jousting) female figures here. Unfortunately, there is in this regard also here emptiness everywhere exclusively men ... The only way to get to visually matching girl characters in medieval outfit, via the Duplo sets with Disney license (two Sofia the First Sets and Sleeping Beauty's castle tower or the Disney Princess Collection), these figures then go in the majority direction Glitter Princess, which possibly also does not apply any parent / child's taste.
Well, maybe I'm also the only one who is not completely satisfied with the figures compilation in the Great Castle Castle ... In the end, however, remains in any case be noted that this set years of garden fun for kids (and parents) guarantees and so well deserved more attention in my view, because of the large scope and thus very good price-performance ratio. Although there is unfortunately no girls in LEGOs Castle World, the set of mine gets nevertheless deserved 5 stars.
