But Laurie loves the blues. And what he delivered two years ago caused a sensation in at least two respects. Firstly, the album was an outrageously good blues disc, to another but still outrageous success.
And promptly naturally whetted several life-unfroher critics the stylus in order to clarify that "Let Them Talk" Yes 1) would not have been as successful, if not just a famous actor on the cover would be seen, who spent eight years week for week more than a hundred million viewers gathered in front of the TV sets in the world and 2) was the album so now truly not so extraordinary blues production that one can justify the success, indeed may even treat him.
The former is certainly true, and second, in terms of uniqueness, probably. And yet! Would we agree that we in future only ultimate best content ourselves only with that we would all just a plate in the cabinet. Apart from that I would look forward to the heated discussions in illustrious experts that this was probably then, it would be in the long run perhaps even a little bit monotonous with the solitary superlative.
On the other hand, however - and it can not cheer enough Hugh Laurie - he has around the planet brought so maybe some people a wonderful music closer that would otherwise never have had the idea to check whether the Blues could grab them. With the sales of the second album now remains to be seen how many of those who just slammed the firstfruits, because it was Laurie, the Blues has actually packed.

The brilliant sound of the entire production strengthens the faith of capable sound engineers in coming decades (so many contemporary pop production can since it is known massive doubt germinate).
Conviction Laurie picked up again 18 times more, often less well-known blues standards out and defined it with its newly blessed by God blues colleagues. Partly over one hundred-year-old songs were revived and remain kilometers far from modern sound effects - just pure, made with hand and heart music. I suppose you do not mind if you think the writer of these lines has not all, but sometimes gives the impression as would be happy every single tone and be proud to be able to be on this album there. Listen to yourself. The board is fun, the feet can mitwippen inevitably and provides a pleasant, warm atmosphere, pure energy and passion and love for the instruments.
Striking contrast to the first album is that Laurie in approximately one third of the songs omitted to place at the microphone and reduces only on his piano, while the vocals are done by alternating three singers - great voices, which he probably was, may take place not only in the background.
To name highlights I refuse, because then you would do the songs listed wrongly. But (not beat, I know, cliché-case) for the girls should probably borne number as "Careless Love" and "One For My Baby (and One More for the Road)" represent very special moments. This fall mainly on why so because so with the utmost precision gentle contributions were not on the first album. And one must also not be feminine touches to breathe in these interpretations. Just "One For My Baby" is of course Sinatra outstanding, but Hugh Laurie is the completely different, very personal interpretation to one side, just a lot closer to the Blues - and as much as I adore Sinatra: poor Lauries version is definitely not.
Very important seems to me one thing: The deluxe edition is indeed significantly more expensive, but also of significant added value. Apart from the beautiful presentation as a hardcover book (about DVD-degree) and detailed liner notes by Hugh Laurie himself and producer Joe Henry, it includes a second CD with five other pieces. I do not know who, how and by what criteria to decide which get 13 songs on the album and why standard the other five as a bonus (and therefore suggestive as sorted and second rate) were declared. The fact is that five Bonüsse are the main album after not just about nothing, they are simply part. Alone on the Laurie & Co. version of "Unchain My Heart" (yes, in 1961 recorded by Ray Charles and later in 1987 by Joe Cocker) I would not want to miss.
After a strong start, two years ago, Hugh Laurie is now presenting even after stronger. The man is a man of conviction for the Blues, a gifted musician, who just been talking to casual jobs in the film afloat. Some of which you have to live so as a penniless musician. But as it looks, he seems to be able to make the music finally fulltime.
