I wanted my old HDD cloning on the SSD to give me the time to play all of the data to save incl OS. I am aware that you can implement this easily with "Acronis True Image". I chose the Samsung's own software "Data Migration".
Now get the bacon: SSD in external USB 3.0 enclosure installed (it is absolutely unnecessary to buy the notebook kit, each empty housing is cheaper and serves the same purpose in cloning) and infected. After Data Migration started, this recognizes both disks and indicates that approximately 380 GB are copied. This lasted almost 5.5 hours then and ended up with a error. The long time initially Readme be suspicious, but I doubted me and repeated the process again. And lo and behold - the same error. After 5.5 and 100% -> Error. To me it was not initially clear what it was, because I have kept exactly to the instructions supplied by Samsung.
Troubleshooting: I had to go to Disk Management, where the SSD (not black) memory assign (blue). That's not a big deal just comes a layman as well as not equal to it. I think it would be no problem to implement a query by software that queries this condition and before copying indicating. Incidentally, this thing is "Acronis True Image" not noticed. However, the cloning process was launched not only, which saves a lot of time.
Having clarified this matter in the Disk Management took the cloning process only 1.5 hours and ended without error. (At this time should be no open data, as these are not cloned)
Next step conversion: HDD out, purely SSD. Start: Error.
The software probably not copied with the boot sectors. Solution: Win 8 Insert CD or USB stick and Repair.
Then the old system runs normally only much, much faster.
You can all so depending on the amount of data that is, in a very short time to implement, if you know what to do. I would have liked from Samsung, that indicates this thing. After speaking with Samsung has confirmed that this is a known issue when cloning and one in future SSD's means of leaflets point out and performs the transition on the Disk Management. The man on the phone told me also that they daily several phone calls to take care of these errors when cloning.
This also recommend the route via the Disk Management.
Who has still problems with his Samsung SSD can call the following number: 00800 8010 8011th The phone number is free of charge and the colleagues speak German. Business hours: Monday - Friday from 08:30 - 17:00 clock.
With the SSD itself ans I'm very happy - read and write speeds are top. Only the feel for my avoidable waste of time when cloning by the software I find unacceptable. A star deduction for it.
