Honestly: Baz Luhrmann's version of "The Great Gatsby - The Great Gatsby" has absolutely no interest to me at the cinema release, also the DVD release, I was very hesitant - solely Leonardo DiCaprio has led me to have a look at risk ....
And I have to say: What a movie experience - boring visually absolutely outrageous, despite the longer duration is not a second, and also the performances by Carey Mulligan ("Drive"), Tobey Maguire ("The Wonder Boys") and Joel Edgerton ("Warrior") are great .... and about all perched DiCaprio with a fascinating view of the mysterious Gatsby ....
Bright Lights - convinces you for yourself !!!!
A film of this kind calls for a soundtrack of a special kind - and here it is!
A collection of styles (Ragtime, black music, ambience and much more), periods (of the 20s, in which the film takes place, to modern times), interesting ways of interpreting of cover versions and specially written for the film tracks and dialogues from the film ....
What works in a film in combination with the visual, does not necessarily work as a music album - "The Great Gatsby" is proof that it is possible!
And these are my personal Anspieltips (and pets):
Track 3, Lana Del Rey and "Young and Beautiful" - a grandiose symphonic track with their hammer-voice ....
Track 4, Jack White and U2's "Love Is Blindness" - a song as a single anguished cry ....
Track 9, Byran Ferry with a version of his 70's classic "Love Is The Drug" in the style of the 20s ....
Track 11, Gotye and "Hearts A Mess" - a SloMo killer of the very first class ....
Track 14, Kanye West and Jay-Z with "No Church In The Wild" - what a brilliant track (*) ....
Track 15, Florence + The Machine with "Over The Love" - this voice leaves a self speechless ....
Track 16, The XX with "Together" - a song with unique effects ....
Track 17, Nero with "Into The Past", composed by Craig Armstrong - nothing more needs to be said ....
and
Track 21, the only piece of the wonderful score of the incomparable Craig Armstrong (eg "WORLD TRADE CENTER", "THE BONE COLLECTOR - The Bone Collector"), entitled "Gatsby Believed In The Green Light" - and only on this DeLuxe Edition available ....
After I enjoyed the movie, I immediately gone off to get me the album ....
Maybe (and hopefully) know about you as well ....
Or - if you do not know the film - perhaps making the music you curious about the film ....
And believe me - it's worth ....
"The Great Gatsby":
An absolute and unconditional Empehlung - for all music lovers !!!!
(*) This track is already known film connoisseurs as credits track of a thriller from 2012 with the title "SAFE HOUSE" with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in the lead roles ....
PS:
With regard to the packaging of this deluxe edition, I give my pros reviewers right: A more beautiful and more elegant solution would have been nice.
But here goes a transparent envelope in CD format (in well-stocked shops and HiFi here at Amazon available) - and the thing is scratched and the "DeLuxe" packaging before buckling and the like protected!
And as the scratching of CDs in cardboard sleeves of this kind - also because there are tricks and ways when removing and plugging back in order to avoid this, believe me!
