In use, had / I have been side by side the ST 5 Racer Brooks and Asics Gel Hyperspeed 5 models, Gel Fuji Racer 2 and Gel-DS Trainer 18 (see corresponding recessions).
General:
--------------
Having already the Brooks St 5 Racer size 44 (normal size in everyday life is 43) in the color white / red / black in 2 copies + have the color white / black / yellow in size 44.5 and a single copy, I decided this nachzukaufen again in a fourth and fifth pair. Although the size 44 fits very well for me, I have this pair of shoes ordered in addition to size 44 in size 44.5. And there is a difference:
From the ride I would size 44 (ie 1 complete no greater than in everyday life.) Select when I use the shoe for the faster - use very fast tempo runs up to 10 km, as it presents a large enough space in the forefoot area, but on the other hand well is located at the foot without to press. - The size 44.5 (. Ie 1.5 No greater than in everyday life) fits my ride rather for something slower and longer runs (about 10 km mark out - Marathon). In forefoot has exactly as much space as in Gr. 44, but the shoe is a little further on foot, which is more comfortable for longer runs. I also have in the size 44.5 still so much space in the shoe that I could once again add an additional cut to size gel insole, which stretches across the entire liner, next is already in the shoe insole manufacturer, so on longer runs a much better damping is given.
The purchase decision without fitting this for me "new size" was carried out due to the very good price / performance ratio, my experience with the two previous models, and the consistently 5-star reviews of other buyers all color models.
For shoe itself:
---------------------------
The shoe fit very well in the first fitting without having to loosen the laces or you can boot without the help of a shoehorn attract.
The shoe can lace easy. The laces are rather short and very shallow. Even with longer runs there is no risk to step on the laces, still loose this by itself.
Who puts on flat cut shoes with motion value is right here. You stand in the shoes very precisely, even in the heel area. At the beginning of a run you feel on the inside at the heel a slight support element that can tilt the foot to the outside (but after about 1 kilometer no longer be felt). The shoe allows the foot does not tip forward. It has over the entire sole constant contact to the ground.
Compared to an Asics shoe has this Brooks running shoe a little less damping. But even on asphalt over 15 or 20 kilometers that was no problem. The slightly lower attenuation but you can feel the ground better. It has more contact with the ground and a light pleasant feeling as when walking barefoot or natural running.
The shoes are comfortable on foot, although are very light, yet stable even over longer distances. From my previous feeling these shoes are indeed on paved routes on loved ones in use, but they are easy to grip and comfortable to wear on forest soils. You can also without problems sometimes occur stones or roots without to too much sense.
The sole provides sufficient grip on all surfaces and has even picked up on gravel roads no stones in the profile. Only in the two O's in the name of Brooks, which is in the sole, stuck in two or three runs a small stone.
Appearance:
----------
In the Natura blue / neon yellow appearance looks much better and cooler than in the photo. The shoes are a real eye-catcher, giving a certain visual dynamism and speed and can in competitions "other runners impress a little" - do you mean, you look so ever what other runners to wear on your feet.
Even in the dark you fall on the basis of many elements and neon yellow laces, which increases certainly security while running in the dark.
Price:
------------
Have found in blue / neon yellow for 69.95 after a long wait, the 2014er model. For more than 70, - I would the shoe, although highly recommended, do not buy. The 2012 model in red / white / black I had time even for 53, - get out of England.
Conclusion:
----------
But be careful! :) The shoe misled due to the above descriptions to run fast and to its name suffix "Racer" more than fair. But you should know what you are tempo-wise and physically as a runner is made off, otherwise it may be that the shoe would like faster than you can yourself.
Very recommendable shoe both in continuous operation and in everyday life. Can also be used for road cycling when using conventional pedals (so no clipless pedals). Can only agree with the other opinions. Since me despite "new" size of shoe already convinced at the first fitting, I would buy the shoe again if necessary.
