Here, I did not want to rely on the built-in PC sound card, but use an external adapter since the current sound cards have rather poor A / D properties and can occur more easily in the PC case also disturbances. In addition, I wanted to avoid the use of a separate phono preamp, because I have learned that these are highly susceptible to electrical interference (crackling when turning on a lamp, etc).
The UFO 202 should gem. an internet search fulfill all my requirements.
I have the equipment now in operation since about 1 month and am ready very satisfied. My configuration: an old (about 30 years) DUAL analogue turntables, UFO 202 with USB extension, my Win 7 (Home Premium 64bit) PC - approximately 3 years old and as a recording / cleaning software MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab 17 deluxe ,
The installation of the UFO was simplest. Connected turntable, slider to phono, USB in the PC, ready .....
So why only 4 stars and not 5?
1) After installing the UFO initially provides only mono signals without that one could see this from the outside. Only through adjustments on the Windows Sound Mixer Stereo is activated .... until I realized this, I had already recorded 10 LPs (so again .....)
2) must also be a little bit in the settings (Windows Sound Mixer) Search until you can hear the input signal through the PC speakers. If only one hook, but that must be just set (until I found the one I have heard purely for checking by headphone connection). The manual says this nothing.
3) The input level on the PC is quite high, so I this at level 7 (had to turn down from 100), to avoid overloads. I would have liked a level in the middle (about 50) in order to adjust it more sensitive to.
These are in the ground things that you need to find out at the start only 1x. From then on, the device operates simply and with good sound quality. The processing is dibasic. Although it is a plastic case, this but it looks reasonable. The bushes make a very good impression.
A Note: The manual (a small leaflet collection) is not in German in, but only in English and Japanese - the German version can also be viewed on the Internet / downloaded as a PDF.
The included software (Audacity and VST Sound Effects) I have not installed, so I have not included in this evaluation.
Conclusion: Very good device; with 1-2 more instructions to set up in Windows, it would certainly have been 5 stars! Would I buy immediately!
Addendum: Meanwhile, I have of the Behringer side a driver offered there to download (although according Beipackblatt the plug-and-play Windows driver should be enough.). With the new driver, the input level can be set to 100%. In recording program thus are at -20 dB max. So absolutely no control over risk - almost a little quiet, but this can easily be compensated on the normalization function.
