Logitech G502 vs Roccat Kone XTD

G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming Mouse (optional)

Customer Review

After my beloved Logitech G5 after many years departed this life in use, I was looking for a similar good successor.

An experiment with the Sharkoon Drakonia (the Green Party) was relatively fast I cut (bad processing, loud). So put a lot of money (IMO too much for a mouse) in the hand and bought the Roccat Kone XTD.

Now I can the Logitech Proteus Core G502 test which indeed plays priced and of the functions in the same league as the Kone XTD. Here are my impressions, which is also a subjective comparison between two mice simultaneously:

Processing:
The processing works well, but not quality. As already chattering times the mouse button when the mouse is placed or shaken.
The cable of the G502 is plastic coated and relatively thin. It is also quite stubborn. At the connection to the mouse provides an additional rubber coating for greater security against cable break.
When the cable Kone is no better, more even worse (cable thin, no additional rubber sheath at the cable end). However, the processing of the mouse body is again a notch and solid.

Appearance:
is of course always a matter of taste. The rugged design of the G502 tells me personally not so. The backlit "G" lights up very bright, but can be switched off in the software.
The gently curving Kone with their discreet LED strip like there better.

Haptics / Ergonomics:
The G502 has a relatively smooth surface, but is still, thanks to the corrugations on the side, well in hand.
The Kone has a velvety, very pleasant surface, but not corrugations on the sides. Thus, the thumb does not have particularly good grip.
The Kone is without weights quite easily. Since I have two (of four) to packed weights. The G502 is quite heavy per se, so that the weights are still in their packaging.
The Kone is significantly wider than the G502. I have rather small hands and hold the mouse in a mixture of palm and fingertip.
For large hands, the G502 might be too narrow.
The thumb is very good at in the G502. Since the Kone has weaknesses.
The keys are originating mainly from easily accessible. Only the keys for DPI change are very unfavorable and are not directly accessible from the operation, but require a gripping or even the operation with the other hand.
The disadvantage I feel the lack of optical delimitation of the keys to the body of the mouse. In low light, the buttons are difficult to detect.
The sliding properties are both very good mice (tested on a Sharkoon 1337 XL Gaming Mat mouse pad), the Kone quieter (almost silently) and the G502 gives a clear, but not scratching sound. By the way can be software-both the mice underground calibrate.

Buttons and mouse wheel:
The G502 buttons have a clean pressure point. Clicking is quiet. But even here the Kone looks a little bit valent because the clicking sound is again low and the click sound may sound darker. In both mice the keys sit tight in the case and do not develop a life of its own.
The mouse wheel is different, the two mice greatly. Although both have a 4-way scroll wheel, ie the wheel is not only for vertical scrolling, but additionally has a left-right function, but Logitech G502 donated in his wheel nor the additional function of a dual-mode scroll wheel. Can then the mouse wheel on a button the detent be parked and are thereby smoothly scroll through large documents. A very handy feature.
In direct comparison the wheel sits in the Logitech but quite wobbly in the body while it is anchored in the Kone bombproof. This means that scrolling in the Kone is sluggish than the Logitech, but a whisper, while the G502 audible scrolls aloud. In addition, ribbing is much better on the Kone-wheel pleasant and fixes the forefinger. When G502 finger slips before you move away. Slow scrolling, screening for screening, works at the Kone thereby significantly better.
The left-right function in the Logitech spongy, which is probably due to the wobbly wheel suspension.

DPI and precision:
The Logitech G502 can be adjusted from 200 dpi to 12000 dpi (!). 12000 dpi is the highest ever resolution in mice, but is likely to be only for people of importance, operate the 4K monitors or multiple monitors side by side. If any!
Nevertheless, the new sensor is very good. Precision leaves nothing to be desired and is a tad better than again when Kone XTD. Every hand movement is transmitted clean and there can be very good to work with the mouse, or play. Definitely the built sensor is the highlight of the G502.
For players: Pointer Acceleration and straightening path (Angle Snapping) can be shut off by software. The lift-off distance is only 1mm. The Roccat Kone XTD has not the possibility Angle Snapping on and off, but does completely without these features, but they are very useful for players though disturbing, for some others. In this respect, the Logitech is universally applicable.
The DPI settings can be changed via button on-the-fly. This is indicated by the LED bar graph on the mouse. I like that better than the Kone who has no visual indication of the currently selected DPI setting and informed only by the sound output when the DPI is changed.

Software:
Both mice feature an extensive software to adjust every little thing can. In direct comparison, my Logitech software like much better, because it is much tidier and completely in German. All buttons can be freely programmed. Likewise macros. Almost all keys can be two numbers. 3 profiles can be set. As already said, can be calibrated and the underground and off Angle Snapping in the Software.
Although almost anything can the software of Kone also, the surface is very messy and therefore is in English.

Conclusion:
The Logitech G502 is a great mouse with an outstanding sensor and a good software.
In direct comparison to Roccat Kone XTD but falls are not quite as good workmanship quality and the worse on mouse wheel (hence "only" four stars)
Also, users are likely to get their problems with the G502 with large hands or friends easier mice.
Still highly recommended (but clearly too expensive - but what is also true for the Kone)
