The most important rule change to the original is the dice. This brings, as it promises the product description, more excitement, at the same time but also a higher luck factor. Voltage is good, such a high share happiness bothers me in a strategy game more. There was with us at every match the situation on that not a better strategy, but the higher Würfelglück of victory decided.
Fortunately you have to have the original? Yes, that's true, but you can not build his entire strategy on the question of whether one trusts his luck or not, you are more forced to live with the drawn.
Interestingly, Cubes has nevertheless extended pauses as the original, you can minutes deal with the question whether and if so, what dice you want to put your luck to the test ... just to find to have no luck ...
It can be stated thus: Who the strategy share of Qwirkle is too high, the times should try Cubes, whoever finds it right, which is not happy with cubes.
By the way: on the question of which of the two games better, are the ghosts. My husband finds Cubes better because the game will be held open, you can always see which colors are in the game, and so you have a better overview of the features are still available.
In one but we agreed: Cubes scores with the, in comparison with the original, much smaller footprint, because the dice have only 20mm edge length, the original stones 32mm edge length and 12mm thickness. A short calculation gives the original a footprint of 1105cm ^ 2, for cubes it takes just 360cm ^ 2, ie less than a third. Crisp Point for cubes!
As you can see, the cube does not need to fear comparison with the Qwirkle original, both games will find their followers.
Regardless of comparing the two games I have to say a few negative aspects of Qwirkle Cubes:
1. Although the material is high quality, but the cube shine very much and are therefore partly difficult to detect. In addition an irregular processing of the cube, which limits the luck of the dice on the question of whether one can give to at least a sufficient rotation the dice or he will show the side or opposite side shown already when it is released again. That's too bad.
2. Also on the instructions we noticed two weaknesses:
2.1 The colors are for this print quality poorly chosen, so we had to search for some time to find the "blue line" in an example image ...
2.2 Particularly in the final makes the manual the player down, there remain open questions. What is the last cube: The one I may invest without dice it, or I can create useful and profitable for me after any number of dice rounds? And how many times I may roll actually, until I have to admit that the game is over?
3. If two very good strategists play against each other, the situation may arise that a premature end of the game is necessary because you have built a square to which you can no longer create. This can happen in the original well, but there is unlikely ...
4. The box is too big, one-third would have done it. Then one would indeed have to print the guide in a different format, but the game would be kept simple and space-saving in the games cupboard. Who has both versions, however, can make do by taking the inner workings of a package and both game bag houses here.
My conclusion: Cubes is exactly his supporters find as Qwirkle and is particularly recommended for people with smaller tables and interest in good combination of luck and strategy game. In future we will probably play both versions, although I find the original a little better.
