Operation:
Who can use a cell phone or a USB flash drive reasonably, will cope well with the Tolino Shine.
Few buttons, a Home button (bottom center), which leads back to the beginning, a very sensitive responsive touchscreen.
On the top left is the On / Off (a dial to shift) and at the top right of the switch for the backlight.
At the top of the touchscreen dazzled with light pressure the menus for Schriftgröße- / art, lighting intensity, etc. - all great and very easy to use.
PDFs:
For me it was important that I can read PDFs on the screen. This can make a difference in text converter, so you can change font size and type. However, then the formatting is lost. This upsets (me) but very little, since the contents are crucial.
If you save images as PDFs from, so they can be viewed on the Reader - there is no JPG format.
Own PDFs (see comments below) should save at least font size 14.
There is free software that converts PDFs into the ePub format, such as Calibre. The funktionoiert, but with some some spelling changes. Overall, the program is not yet fully developed for this format conversion.
First experience / downloading books:
The first attempts to download free e-books and to borrow two e-books from the public library, have folded. Have first had problems to find the folder where the borrowed books have landed (the folder called My Digital Editions "and can be found in the Documents folder as a subfolder), so do not under Downloads (land here, unless otherwise specified, All free Ebooks).
That's why knowing it is no longer a problem, then transfer the books to Tolino (currently have no WLAN, the Tolino connect so via a USB cable to the PC, after this - just like any USB drive or camera - now his own Disk drive creates).
To operate the reader, you have to login first (on the reader or on the PC) at a shop / portal (Telekom and one of the big bookstore chains) and register with Adobe to an ID to read the ACSM file format zuerhalten (MANDATORY for borrowing and reading books in the ePub format). I found that at the beginning a bit complicated, but "actually" simple: the downloaded books in this land then Adobe folder "My Digital Editions" (see above). FYI: from the ASCM files the books are then converted into the "epub" format, so you can read the book on the Reader :).
WLAN:
More than 11 000 Hotspots can be used free of charge in Germany to buy in the shop. For me, not necessarily important at most, if one looks at the airport nor a book that you would like to read.
Memo and text marking are possible: Tap a word longer and the corresponding menus for more exact or to highlight memo open.
Dictionary function, reference works and book management function:
There is now a new version (update to download) (English German / / Fanz / ital... - Translation) with dictionary functions, reference (German, English and Italian) and a book management function (eg by genre, author, favor etc. ). Was "long overdue" and was soundly implemented. Helpful additions!
Conclusion:
Am excited .., especially the backlight is great, just the sort options (possibly own PDFs call again very good) the files.
Will the tactile experience book indeed remain very connected, but is a reader, especially with luggage restrictions on the plane or in the train, a great, very light, complementary medium.
Looking forward to my trip to the Tolino. highly recommended.
