To the person Alexander McQueen I knew so far still only very little. I had some information about him and his life to talk, read times there, but overall I was the man virtually unknown.
This biography of Andrew Wilson then brought light into the darkness and filled the name 'Alexander McQueen' with life.
His family, partners, friends and classmates / colleagues / employees comment on the relative gaps 90s and 2000s, in which McQueen began his career and has continued successfully.
It was interesting to read that he has learned his trade from the bottom up, and not only in England but also in Italy, among others. Diesgepaart with his creative ideas, his practical ability and his open eye on the (failed) creations of other artists then led to the quite large (like) s Collections.
From head to toe, from hat to shoes he created groundbreaking new and (for many a viewer) shocking.
And women are presented as a strong, self-confident people.
Conclusion: Andrew Wilson sets with 'Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath the Skin' an informative and liquid biography written one of the most important fashion designers of recent decades ago.
Cool would be solely a few more photos from both McQueen and his collections. But there is then luckily the handsomely illustrated books by Kristin Knox, Judith Watt and Alexander Bolton / Harold Koda.
Remarks:
But emphasized (1) is definitely the evocative and expressive title photo.
(2) Since 14 March and until 02 August 2015 running in London's Victoria and Albert Museum, the exhibition 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty', in the 200 creations of his career will be shown.
(3) The more one deals with McQueen's collections and catwalk extravaganzas, the more one his enormous talent and his creative genius clearly.
