The first start up the player brings me now to the date so really only minus point. Because I was pretty surprised where this shrill humming / buzzing noise could occur, which unfortunately creates the fan of the player. When I think about that with turning on the Quick Start function of the fans would be even louder ... But luckily you get used pretty quickly at the sound and TV or movies you did not hear it. So not worth mentioning.
Highlight is now perhaps time the compatibility with systems from other manufacturers. And I own a TV from Philips, which has the player recognized for a directly BluRay home theater system, with which also worked so well together on the other hand, that I can use the volume knob on the TV to automatically adjust the overall volume of the Bluray system to regulate. Added to this is that the 5.1 system, including player automatically turns off, if I do that with the TV.
Now I have no great opportunities for comparison (only perhaps with a 5.1 headset), but the system produces a good sound and rich bass. After a software update the console, which must be made on a burned CD or Internet, so that all Blurays play correctly, all discs have been played back without any problems, sometimes with violent results (for example, in Lord of the Rings from the subwoofer to the ground shakes).
And that brings me to the next positive feature of the player. Not only the clear menu (thanks to Sony as the PS3 up) or the quick setup of the equipment, but also through selectable by buttons on the remote sound modes of the device are superb. For if there are presets for movies, music, TV or even just "Night" mode, where the bass, thus restricts the intensity of the subwoofer and the speakers makes a little quieter. This allows even at night relaxed and a little quieter, a broadcast / film in a 5.1 look having to settle down without all channels.
And finally convinced the included docking station, which recognizes the iPhone 4 for example, directly, all music and video plays and charges the battery pack. When connecting the docking station to the single USB port on the front of the player, which otherwise also a USB stick or wireless stick would have taken place. Just a pity that I for my LAN cable from the router coming not even can make a turn for home theater system and that a WLAN stick is accepted only in the original by Sony, the once loose 65 costs (as of: Dec. 2012). To me the online features such as the update over the Internet or obtaining of media like music from the Internet or the media server (private network) remain once granted. The latter, however, I can again compensate with my TV (built media server).
So I can say conclusively that the device has convinced me. Positive was, among other things:
+ For me the really good sound of boxes
+ The rich bass of the subwoofer
+ The stylish design of the system
+ The compatibility with systems from other manufacturers (Simultaneous off, use both remote controls possible, ...)
+ The sound modes, adaptable to playback media or daytime (Night mode)
+ Really easy to connect the speakers thanks to color coding
+ The sufficiently long cable boxes
+ The supplied docking station
+ Function to convert 2D to 3D images (I have, however, been hardly used, since the effect is not exactly huge)
+ Thus the price / performance ratio
As negative I could evaluate the following:
- The first getting used to noise of the fan
- The economical connections (1x HDMI)
To have the lack of compatibility with conventional WLAN sticks / Original Sony WLAN stick only in addition around 65 -
The benefits outweigh clearly in this system, I can recommend it to anyone who has always had an interest in 5.1, but have never had the pleasure of having a home theater system!
