Very good sound without wires

Earlier this year, Sennheiser at the CES a new set of wireless headphones before, the audiophile should inspire. From this series I have tested the Sennheiser RS185. Unlike other headphones of the RS185 is an open headphone, thus is you are not completely cut off from its environment, but can also enjoy the sounds a little more open.
The package is located next to the actual headphones a transmitter / charging station that is connected to the music source. This can be done both via analog RCA, as well as digitally via optical connection. Included is an RCA cable and an optical cable. To connect to a headphone jack adapter must be purchased separately.
At the transmitter unit only a few controls exist. Back are the connectors for connection to the music system and a switch that determines the input type analog or digital, and the socket for the power adapter. At the front, a rotary switch for manual modulation when using the analog input, and a switch located on the automatic level. In addition, LED can be found at the front or to the display of charge status, modulation and activity.
On the left earpiece of headphones are buttons for volume up / down, for the right / left balance, as well as an additional switch for the automatic level. In addition, there is also the power switch, it must be pressed to turn a little longer. Although the individual switch quite large and the features are imposed, it is at least quite difficult to find the right keys at the start. I hope this will be better with a bit of getting used to.
Unfortunately, a lot of plastic was used for packing, but I have been long gone so well instructed when unpacking. All important points to open, unfolding and inserting batteries are marked. Here you can not go wrong even without a single glance at the manual.
In each earpiece must be set with a battery. The supplied batteries are charged up to 25%, as a first test is no obstacle. However, the batteries should be charged only once then 16 hours. Later, a full charge takes only 8 hours. Before charging the headphones is suspended and charged via the charging station.
For wireless connection own 2.4GHz transmission protocol is used, its range is actually greater than that of comparable Bluetooth headphones. I still had a connection in the next room over 2 walls away. However, this wireless network also affects the wireless reception on my stereo, because the WLAN is not quite optimal here.
At the sound is nothing to complain. Unfortunately I can not make a direct comparison between a closed system and this open headphones. I prefer an open system, although perhaps like the bass be somewhat richer in a closed system. But at the Sennheiser RS185 the sound is clear by drawn.
The headphone is wearing very comfortable. It is not difficult, and at least I had after a lengthy gestation period no problems with heat or sweat on the ear.
