Its tariff placement allows advantageously replace the faint 18-55 sold in kit.
Certainly it can not compare to Sony - SAL1650 - Objective DT 16-50 mm F2.8 SSM for Digital SLR is best and widely quieter but not cost twice as far.
The build quality is sturdy (but heavy, 430g) and zoom rings and MaP are soft but not too much.
The opening of 2.8 constant throughout the focal range is a real treat and it can be used both for the macro, portrait and photos in low light.
It is now screwed permanently on my Sony Alpha 330 and compared to 18-55 sold with, this is the day and night.
Edict of 27/08/2013: From my first review, I passed a DSLR-A330 (10Mpx) to SLT-A65 (24Mpx) but the Tamron gives me as much pleasure.
