The Protectioncube is the only device I've found, which transmits digitally after the FHSS method. As a computer scientist, I try the time to explain to mere mortals: FHSS is frequency hopping spread spectrum and means that the data is transmitted not only to one frequency, but over many frequencies scattered here and there a bit after a pseudo random will be shipped (ie that looks like a random distribution, but the receiver knows which channel the next bit coming). That is mainly for those who value a low-radiation device specifies that the radiated energy is much more distributed in the frequency spectrum and therefore the radiation exposure is low (as for example in DECT). Bluetooth incidentally is also working with FHSS. Enough of the technical details :-)
What can the device?
-If Be noise detected at the base station, the bracelet vibrates device and the 4 LEDs blink depending on the volume. Of course, you can hear the sounds.
-It Has an intercom function (maybe useful if the child is greater later)
-The Volume can be adjusted in 4 steps on each device
-The Base station can optionally be powered by batteries.
Since we unnecessary frills such as remote-controlled lighting and remotely transmitted temperature did not matter (how the temperature in the nursery should change abruptly?), This device seemed so very appropriate.
Plus points:
- Klein
- Light
- Easy Handling
- Long battery life it Strap (depending on use every 2-3 days charge)
- Well-functioning connection demolition indicator (audible and visual)
- Tap-proof (due to digital transmission)
- Good audio quality (also thanks to digital transmission)
- Long range (child was known in the 3rd floor, in the garden good reception).
(Small) criticisms:
- Bracelet acts on the arm a little clunky, but is still less than any other device that I have seen. (Somewhat reminiscent of an electronic ankle bracelet, but in principle it's also something similar ;-))
- No replaceable battery in the bracelet (okay, that does not apply to the tech-savvy hobbyists)
- The vibration could be shorter or pulsed
- The bracelet can indeed operate in the charging station, but the buttons can then be bad use, this would be two notches help of the two buttons. (Important when the battery is empty times)
Conclusion: Fully recommended, small, lightweight, tap-proof baby monitor with intercom function. I do not know why not use this device instead of DECT wireless standard. The voice quality is great and a connection tear will be displayed immediately.
Supplement 20.11.2013:
We have the baby monitor is now over 3 years in use and are still very satisfied with the functionality. It does what it should. That the vibration can turn on the parent, I have only learned through a review, which I think is very positive, because we use the baby monitor in the bedroom at night and the vibration but rather a tearing out of sleep. We have the baby part also used for a while in battery mode. There has, however, recommended the cover of the battery compartment to be unscrewed, because the constant still bugged and wake screw during battery change something. Meanwhile, my child is three years old and I sometimes use the intercom function, which is also extremely useful.
The batteries in the parent unit hold after 3 years still. And that even though the parent spends most of the day in the charging station, which is not exactly good for a battery. The buttons are for 3 years now something ausgelatscht and have no fixed pressure point more, but still work.
What bothers some, is that the power supplies whimpering slightly. Especially the power supply to the baby part I have soundproofed so.
The fact that some people complain about the low coverage is not surprising. Those who try to operate the part by two reinforced concrete ceilings need not be surprised at the low transmission power of the Baby unit (low-radiation) that is not working. Outdoors, I can confirm a reception distance of 200m, then disconnects from mostly (camping). Even a failure by a microwave is not surprising really. Will this but in the same frequency band as the baby monitor.
For our purposes, is still the right baby monitor. I would buy it again.
