Ups and downs of a Kone XTD Roccat and comparisons with Logitech

Roccat Kone XTD Gaming Mouse optical (6400 dpi, Omron switches, 4D Titan Wheel Weight System) Black (Personal Computers)

Customer Review

===== ===== HISTORY
Previously:
I now 8-9 years used a Logitech G5 and the very first generation was broadly satisfactory, but more of that later. Before that I had among others the Mouseman Dual Optical. Thus I know the comparison between optical and laser scanning.

To me personally:
I've also played some very professional level the last few years. Among almost exclusively shooters like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Battlefield, titanium case. But of course games like LoL, Dota, WoT or WT (persons concerns this information, the abbreviation understand).
I use a mix of palm and fingertip grip. I tested with both variants the mouse. On the Claw grip my descriptions are not to relate.

Previous search:
At first I had the same once a Logitech G502. The mouse is technically a madness. The best button layout that I have ever experienced. And the mouse wheel anyway the best that has ever been built in a mouse. Unfortunately I got after 2-3 days usage still in pain on the palms, because the back of the mouse is peculiarly shaped for me, on the contrary to the G4-5 series of Logitech. Thus, the mouse was first time back, because for the price you want something truly perfect.

In the market, I then played around a lot with the Razer DeathAdder, Razer Imperator, SteelSeries Rival, SteelSeries Sensei, Madcatz Council Roccat Kone Pure series and in white. The grippy great feeling and the beautiful Dent on the thumb of the Roccat Kone Pure, had moved me to the Roccat Kone XTD try. Razer were out because of the inferior (and confirmed by the on Amazon Reviews)-feeling buttons. SteelSeries was not yet out, but you have to start so times. The Madcatz mice had laser (like the Sensei) and there was often a lot and complained about the sensors that so many went so quickly broken.

===== ===== TEST
Note: The Roccat Kone XTD is in shape is actually the direct competitor to Logitech's G400 and 500s.

** BUTTONS **
One of the main arguments of my hand, the quality Omron switches are installed in the Kone XTD. This scored points by a very good tactile feedback and a pleasant (usual) clicking sound. The Klickweg is very short and quick consecutive clicks easily go from your finger. But the resistance is large enough so you do not inadvertently trigger.
But the pressure point is not at any point of the mouse button the same. That seems a bit spongy and is even quite easy to perceive, however, it is immediately caught my eye. One can see very well, especially if you look at the mouse from the front and then a mouse button once outermost expresses innermost and down once. Here you can see then, that the key is not lowered evenly. After a little time, it is a little better, but still nowhere near as good as Logitech G5 and G502. This is not easy in a gaming mouse in the price range.
The middle mouse button is not a disaster, but also not very good. Mir, it happens from time to know that it tilts to the side if I want to push it.

+ Pleasant tactile feedback
+ Omron switch

- Easy spongy behavior depending on where the button you click
- Thumb keys can be after the jump press still quite far
- Middle mouse button tilts slightly away when you press

** MOUSE WHEEL **
The mouse wheel gets its own section because there are huge differences in mice here. In principle, which is part of Kone XTD the better, but only because the mouse wheels are very bad across the board all.
The mouse wheel really feels good and has a good grip. However, just way too stiff, coupled with a lot to facilitate screening. Here I would hope that it would be exactly the opposite. After playing you have to use the mouse wheel quickly and accurately. Here is the exact opposite exists.
The best mouse wheel can be found currently in the Logitech G502. It's not so easy to grip and feels not quite as good, but the grip is absolutely sufficient. There is extremely well rested and you feel the rasterization extremely well when scrolling. If I take away quickly scroll and the finger, then it runs a little further and if I leave it the finger, it remains perfect. As it is known from the use of its smartphones.

+ Handy and fits comfortably on your finger
+ (Quiet, but that's a matter of taste and has little benefit in practice)

- A little too stiff and thus slow
- Screening too smoothly

** HAPTICS / Ergonomics **
Here the Kone XTD scores times right, because the mouse feels great in your hands for big hands. You can create medium and small finger well and by the additional amount they do not grind so heavily on Mouse Pad as with most other mice.
Big problem I see, however, when lifting the mouse. The weight is very far behind making them easily tilts when you raise. Moreover, the weights behind used. I do not use, because the mouse is hard enough, but that would only worsen the problem.
The material on the sides is a little too slippery to me. Mice like the Razer DeathAdder, the SteelSeries Rival or the Logitech G5 offer here a much more secure grip.

+ Is very good in the hand
+ Even after many hours of no pain or effort
+ Finger on the sides are good at

- Material on the sides not slippery enough
- Focus is something behind, especially for players Fingertip

** SENSOR **
Here I was extremely surprised. As of optical sensors used to a very direct sense, no mouse acceleration as with most laser mice and more than enough DPI. I operate the mouse with 800 dpi and 500Hz sampling rate. Here the noise is in the sample at its lowest and the sampling rate of 500Hz is most stable.
The absolute highlight of this mouse is the low lift of Distance (LOD). This can be set to boot in the drivers. I have not measured, but it is not more than a third of my Logitech G5. The Logitech G502 is here with one of the best sensors in the market even a little left behind.

+ Direct and precise feeling
+ Extremely low lift of Distance
+ Sensor sits right under the approach of the index finger

** FEATURES **
While there are many nice features with profiles or alter colors mouse. I feel this at a really good mouse rather not so important because the necessary things have now all mice. So I do not value this section. Mostly I turn the lights as much as possible from and always use the same DPI setting since the Muscle Memory immensely improved.

** PROCESSING **
It was complained a lot about irregular gaps. All I can say absolutely nothing, because I might have been lucky, because it all fits perfectly. The mouse is very high and does good. Everything fits as it should and it rattles nothing. The only drawback might be the somewhat fiddly flap the weights and the storage box also looks very bad. But I do not values, because so often not used to it.
BUT it stinks! And really pushy. So much so that after 15 minutes of use, my hand again stinks further 15 minutes. That stench is caused by chemicals that are released from plastic. As you know it from the typical plasticizers. I for one know so little of so far absolutely no mouse and generally of any of my peripherals and absolute NO GO.
I do not want to keep the next 8-9 years, sometimes even sweating in my hands this mouse. I just have this bad feeling. And for that price is an absolute joke.
For me, one of the main reasons why the mouse will go back.

+ Good clearances
+ Has a high
+ No rattling

- You stink bestial and so much so that their own hands begin to stink. These substances are also absorbed by the skin. For the price that severs all pluses in this category

** FIRMWARE **
This is not that important to me because I once all hiring and then usually save on your mouse no longer attacking. However, I regard it yet, because that's what this was set a time a challenge in itself. Every time I have something stored on the mouse, the GUI has exposed for 30-60 seconds.
If I change the DPI, then there is the active selection in the GUI and not just vice versa. When I changed the DPI level, it turned not to the mouse.
Changing the color has absolutely not worked. Here, the choice of colors has reset. But then I also left it after 2 attempts.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely no pluses recorded, for me is in fact the statistics tool but just a gimmick no more benefits.

- Unstable (maybe better in laser Kone)
- Overloading
- Does not respond to taps on the mouse

==== ==== CONCLUSION
All in all, yet not a bad mouse with mainly an outstanding sensor, the one at that, apart from vertigo, excellent in the hand. For the price you but expects a lot more than what is offered because the competition there are similar features for half the price.

For my part, it must because of the stench and thus seemingly inferior material return. I want every day for hours on my skin something not in the coming years.

If here, nor change anything, I will bring an update, but I do not fear it once.

Update:
So since I have a G402 and Razer DeathAdder have now tried yet, I have to change my point distribution again. Because the two mice also smell very strong. When Deathadder but is bearable and only slightly, which is still acceptable, but the G402 stinks to high heaven!

However, I have to change anything in terms of ergonomics, because after trying really many mice I find that the Roccat Kone partly feels like having a brick in his hand. At first it may seem pleasant, but the amount of mouse if you think carefully about very counterproductive for the feeling of hand-eye coordination. The transmission of the movements on the mouse pad do not feel well while playing shooting games. The Deathadder eg blends much better with his hand and the hand to the mouse pointer. Hard to explain, so just try it out yourself.

Overall, the mouse gets one point more. This results in the following average:
