I spend my time in recent years to maintain my photo and video equipment, also because in the family my wife and one of my daughters are reporting for TV stations and local publications.

So I just sell my RX100 MII to acquire new MIII.
As I have an excellent range of cameras and current objectives, it allows me to make comparisons.
I'd settle for comment 3 aspects:
1- The price of MIII RX100 is it reasonable?
2- The strengths of the RX100 MIII.

1- The price of MIII RX100 is it reasonable?
The RX100 MIII the current suggested retail price of 850 Euro may seem expensive and actually it's more that I recently paid for the new Alpha 6000 + 16-50mm f / 3.5-5.6 with an APS-C sensor 4 times bigger and 24 Megapixel still offering more possibilities with interchangeable lenses and 2 to 3 times more than all my latest pocket cameras or Nikon P340 Olympus SH-1.
The normal consumer does not see much difference in image quality (but present) and the handling of the MIII RX100 offers possibilities that go far beyond the normal requirements. No expense has sense only for very experienced amateurs. In addition, the new Zeiss lens is limited to 70mm and even if the shutter speed, AF does not respond fast enough to scenes like Moto Cross, children's games, moving dogs, sporting events etc.
The RX100 MIII is positioned above a camera for amateurs and below a professional camera.

To return to the price, the 850 Euro seem high at first sight, but in view of the viewfinder, the microprocessor BionzX and especially the exceptional quality of the lens, the price difference with IBD seems to me objectively justified.

Alpha made 6000 the best photos, but to really enjoy its possibilities, we must also invest between 700 and 2,000 Euro in Zeiss lens and passes in any case in a pocket, even XXXL.

The Olympus SH-1 did not even listening half and zoom and extraordinary stabilization that allows to make indoor shots without a tripod to 1/30 s, colors and superb sharpness, but in wide angle distortion and blur the edges are pronounced.
Fan 90% n 'will see no problem and do not need the quality of the Zeiss RX100 MIII.

Personally, I consider the quality and clarity of purpose as the essential factor of performance.
For this reason, I have in my portfolio Fujinon XF, Leica and Nikon with f / 1.4 and Zeiss and Nikon with f / 1.8, allowing in almost all cases not to use flash and avoid those awful partly overexposed shots and totally dark backgrounds, not to mention colors that have nothing natural.

I think the objective of the RX100 MIII is qualitatively comparable to the Fujinon XF (about 650 Euro) that I use with my X-Pro1 and X-T1 or Zuiko 12-40mm (860 Euro) I get on my Olympus OMD EM10 or Lumix GX7 / GH3.
As it is of course included damns the price of the RX100 MIII, 850 Euro seem reasonable.

From another point of view, the small RX100 MIII has by far the best value of all RX and mobility is exceptional.

Alternatives:
For those not seeking maximum perfection and may waive a viewfinder in direct sunlight or the benefits of a rotating screen, I would recommend rather an RX100 used as new MII around 450 Euro or if the center of gravity is not centered on manual controls and picture perfect small Olympus SH-1 or Nikon P340 with a very big zoom for less than 350 Euro.
To those who seek quality, renounce positioning pocket camera and are willing to invest long-term heavily in goals, the Sony Alpha 6000 or the Olympus OMD EM10.
If you want a DSLR, my recommendation will be the Pentax K-30, just pay attention to the fit of a goal WR (water resistant) which will allow you to photografier even in storms for an extremely reasonable price.

2- The strengths of the RX100 MIII
The excellence of the combined lens with 5-axis stabilization, the sensor sensitivity, the performance of microprocessor and resistance to noise and interference predestined for the MIII shots in difficult conditions. In addition, the RX100 have excellent HDR, that is to say, the camera takes multiple shots very quickly with different sensitivities and combine them into one shot, brightening dark areas and reducing overexposed areas without sacrificing contrast. The quality of this process is professional and RX100 MIII calculates very quickly, almost 3 times faster than my Pentax K-3. With the MIII, it is not necessary to proceed to subsequent handlings with lightroom software to optimize clichés.

It seems important to focus on the immense possibilities of configuration and manual intervention. This camera is not for those looking for simplicity. Of course, it has an abundance of automation, but we do not buy a Lamborghini for shopping at the market.

3- The weak points
The Zeiss is not really a zoom. It is in practice generally sufficient, but in special cases such as a visit to the zoo, bird watching or wild etc, it will not give you full satisfaction.
I have not found a possibility to create a personalized menu as my Alpha 6000. Apart from this, the software is very similar.
FA is a little hesitant, do not respond instantly as suggested advertising.
Communication with a laptop is very limited.

4 Notes on accessories
The LCJ-RCX leather socoche my IBD happening on the MIII. It offers very effective protection but greatly increases the volume so that the RX100 does not pass in any pocket.
The Lithium-Ion battery NP-BX1 is feeble with its 1240 mAh. Photos 200-250 is realistic.
So I purchased in Germany different brand batteries (Ansmann, Hähnel, Energizer) and a Chinese battery (Ex-Pro high power). Brand batteries cost more or less between 20 and 22 Euro for about 1100 mAh. Chinese battery has significantly less and is lighter, costs about 10 Euro. My recommendation goes to the above brands batteries that are comparable to the original of Sony, but much cheaper.
The rechargeable battery is in the camera. So I got myself for 10 Euro including postage Patona a charger that works very well. The charging time lasts 2 to 3 hours during which the camera is used.

In conclusion:
All in all, although in comparison with very good compact cameras, the RX100 has MIII equipment and exceptional .performances and is unique in its class. Substantially the same as the Lumix camera with stabilization GX7 returns most expensive with a similar target (but is more flexible thanks to the interchangeable lenses).
The price is justified, but because of this, this camera is for ambitious.

The RX100 is however not a universal camera that covers the entire range of activity of a photographer but the family estate, vacation and tourism, campfires, concerts, street fotography, landscapes, portraits, group, macro, etc. , so almost all of the normal requirements. - RX100 MIII (more compact)
- RX10 (the practice)

Many of us walk around with a tripod and take their time to make a perfect development of a beautiful landscape, a unique architecture or a nest of rare birds.
