The mouse looks at first very valuable and well finished. All keys are smooth and have a solid. Since creaks, rattles and shakes nix. In particular, but the thumb buttons are surprisingly noisy when clicked. The mouse is in contrast to what many write here, not so flashy big. If I put them next to my previous MX 518, it has the same size approximately. What probably many "big" associate with, is the fact that the mouse (first and second mouse button) is unusually wide cut especially in the area of the main keys. I find that not to be a disadvantage; the mouse fits comfortably in your hand and feels pleasantly. The weight is quite high, but can be reduced by the simple removal of the built-in weights to a "normal level".
The buttons are well placed, easy to reach, but not easy to accidentally trigger. In particular, the small button next to the mouse wheel should be emphasized; I know the other mice so that the button is behind the wheel, where it can be reached only with dislocations. In the case of Fireglider it lies against it between wheel and the left mouse button, where it can be easily reached. In addition, this button is slightly raised and fluted, which makes everything very easy to operate in all. The mouse wheel also just feels "right" to, screening, and ease of function keys are very good. Five of the buttons (all but left mouse button and small "dpi" button before the mouse wheel) can be freely occupy. In addition, scrolling the mouse wheel (up / down) can also assign any.
The function of the mouse is very precise and can not be by very fast movements bring out of step. In addition, the laser with a "DPI" button is adjustable in 5 steps from 800-3600 dpi. If you do not need such fine adjustment possibilities can be the limit on fewer stages.
By contrast, the appearance is such a (taste) thing ... the shape and materials actually look very good. Were it not for these atrocious Manta flames nachhaltigst all valent and beautifully designed impression and auffälligst break anything. Too bad, plain or painted with a subtle effect, this mouse would look too great. So you have to stop saying that the outstanding feature of the mouse is simply worth to let teasing from colleagues and from ...
A special mouse (at least in this price range and even a price range above) is the onboard memory for key macros. That is the key assignments and mouse macros are stored directly on the mouse. This has huge advantages. In a conventional mouse, a driver between the mouse and the operating system must set that evaluates the keystrokes and converts them into macros. That's my experience quite susceptible to interference and was - mentioned in passing - the reason for the change of mouse: my MX518 rumgezickt Windows 7 AGAIN and do not get the double-macro.
The Fireglider contrast sends at a keystroke macro directly from the mouse so out as you have indicated it. As such, it is also not dependent on a specific driver. And in fact, the supplied "driver" no real drivers, but only one program, which allows you to transmit its settings on the mouse. As actual driver of the standard Microsoft mouse driver is used in Windows. This not only has the advantage that it works very reliably, but also that one's mouse - even "programmed" - can connect to any computer without having to install a driver. You then always immediately his personal key assignment available - (briefly tested with Knoppix and Ubuntu 9.10) even eg Linux computers.
The supplied software fulfills every wish. They worked with me right away on XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro 32 64 without any problems and offers extensive opportunities for key assignments. One can create own, extensive macros with the integrated macro editor even that I have not been tested for lack of demand.
If the mouse included Keys on Linux works in principle, the supplied software could not be used under Linux (but not specified by the manufacturer as a supported operating system). The program installs itself taking Wine properly and also runs, but can not find a mouse for lack of USB support of Wine. To configure Linux so access is still required on a Windows system.
Conclusion: in function and design an excellent mouse for desktop use. Nothing to complain about there. 5 Stars.
Were it not for the horrible flames. 1 star deduction.
But for the price is unbeatable well. 1 Star bonus.
Power at the end but then again 5 star ;-)
