LG 55LA6918 139 cm (55 inch) TV (Full HD, triple tuners, 3D, Smart TV) (Electronics)

Customer Review

Unlike many others here I bought the TV almost exclusively as a monitor for my PC. Therefore, I would like in my review mainly focus on issues that are important for gamers.
I first bought a series of small (LA6608) in 47 inches, ended up being unhappy with the size and'm dodged the 55LA6918, mainly because he was just in the offer and thus cheaper.

Housing
Here is more or less the only difference between the LA6608 and LA6918. The LA6608 is unlike its big brother in a nondescript black case, which was mostly trimmed to functionality. When LA6918 but most visible parts have been replaced with really high-quality aluminum. That looks really fantastic. No question, the LA6918 really classy and makes an excellent in my apartment. From the look he is miles ahead of the LA6608. The edge is in both the same width.

Scope
To the extent heard next to the TV a "Magic Remote" remote control, 4 3D glasses, 2 Dual Play glasses and a NFC Sticker for Smartphone (gimmick, you can also connect your smartphone without stickers). The connectors on the TV are on the left and are having their numbers in midfield. Some might come with 3 HDMI inputs to their limits. I was missing nothing to operate the TV, but also no real surprise was there.

Picture:
The picture quality is generally at a very high level but also offer other manufacturers. One can see that the LED technology is fully mature slowly. "Despite" 100Hz display I can not hack or flicker recognize at fast camera movements in games, Vsync provided is active. Without Vsync sometimes the top and bottom half of the image out of sync, which is not on TV, but on the graphics card. One should necessarily switch on at 55 inches, even if the performance suffers.

Weaknesses in Clouding are minimal, only the homogeneous dark blue login screen in Windows 8 can I detect slight error in the illumination. After logging in, however, is nothing more to see. With a black or very dark picture of this problem occurs, however, not on, apparently this is now no longer an issue. The only drawback is the LED bar at the top of the screen that seems too bright and striking when you see exactly there. After a few firmware updates, the problem is but declined slightly in my opinion.

The colors look for an LED really surprisingly good. The black looks really awesome, even if it's dark outside. Here I can ever identify any weaknesses. Even the white commonly used in Windows looks very good.

the resolution in 1080p, I would also like to lose a word. My conclusion is this: 1080p is the top of the meaningful resolution. I now have a really large screen TV and sitting relatively close to front (seat pitch approximately 2-2.5 m)., And I can state absolutely no pixels. Both text on white background and in games is nothing to see. If there should be a profit by UHD, then he must be minimal.

Input Lag
Important for gamers: sure to adjust the image Scheme on "Games". Without this setting, the mouse feels like cotton wool on packed. Through this scheme the lag is reduced to 0 Felt because I can not see any difference to my Acer monitor. The mouse responds instantly when I move it.

3D
For films the TV is really well suited to the drawbacks of passive 3D I can not confirm. The resolution looks to me still out to 1080p. In 3D games is such a thing. Firstly, I will very quickly badly of the graphics card make multiples for other needs. Vsync do I need to turn off most of what makes it worse. Mine is not, but I have the television but not bought. Anyone who is interested I can post my setup:

Core i5 2500K
Radeon HD 6950

From the house there is no 3D function in the driver, however, offers the optional software Tridef good Komptabilität. This can directly the 3D function are driven by television and it does not have the lossy Side-by-side or up-and-down representation be dodged. Tridef costs 25 dollars for ATI customers. Even though my HD 6950 is still for all the new games in 2D is more than enough, so you need more power for 3D.

Sound:
The big advantage as the 6918 advertised in the area Sound Subwoofer is unfortunately a complete letdown. The technology is good, no question, but when driving someone has slept completely. Instead play the sound as a single from the subwoofer, it belongs to the left speaker of the TV. The result is that the left channel is played nicely tired, the right channel but degenerates into Brüllwürfel. Especially in games where fast times change the channel during camera movement in talks or in surplus, the difference sounds simple underground. Had they left out the subwoofer, so the poor quality would notice not quite as strong. Here are external speakers or headphones required.

Magic Remote:
Since I do little else to use as the TV as a monitor meets the Magic Remote their purpose. Keys for on / off and volume up / down are available. If you want to switch to HDMI, then you have to go through cumbersome the smartHUB (need to load the TV at start only). The concept is useful, however, of no interest to me.

SmartHUB:
Most of the smart function I do not use, so I can not comment on it. However, no arguments are still remembered me, why such a thing needs at all. The only exception is the YouTube app in combination with an additional device. You can connect his Youtube account with the TV and then on a second device "Play Video" send a command to the TV. This works great. Instead with the fiddly control TV to find a video, you can rest on his cell phone in select a video and then be able to play the LG. The WLAN adapter creates no problems 1080p from Youtube.

Streaming from NAS or PC from another room via DLNA possible, but the supplied software is very cumbersome. I do not need this feature though, 1080p videos can be streamed but without hesitation.

Other:
All 2013 LG TV offer on his own initiative or Miracast Intel Widi. The idea is good, execution unfortunately lacking. I was not able, my Surface Pro to connect to the television, although it is actually running Windows 8.1 and should latest drivers for graphics and wireless function. With my Nexus 5 the pairing worked, but you have to put the phone practically right in front of the TV, without breaking the connection. That's too bad, because actually both WLAN Adapter show good performance.

Conclusion:
The LA6918 has everything you as a gamer so wishes. Both 2D and 3D function play perfectly on this TV. Therefore unlimited purchase recommendation from me.
