Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - [Nintendo 3DS] (Video Game)

Customer Review

MH3U is my first Monster Hunter. What you think as an interested potential customer when you see the package? Hunt monsters? What else? Much is yes in 3DS games on it before. Can be found online, unfortunately, more than actual descriptions Guides overall gameplay. Accordingly, I also hesitated a while before I decided to buy ...

Well, sometimes I can compensate for that and write this review from the perspective of a MH-Noobs. Note on the site: I apologize for the English terms in this review. My 3DS is set to English, according to packaging also support the game but German. I've just tried not and therefore do not know the German name of weapons and so on.

What kind of game is it? Relevant genres are Action RPG or action adventure. Man is a character who is human, although other building but relatively flexible (gender, face, hair, voice, etc.). Which one then looks from third-person perspective to the battles of monsters. As far as the title already suggests yes, though of course this is all packaged in a frame story. There are also various side jobs such as gathering resources or different crafting systems, you can also manage a small farm, the fishing fleet fishes send, etc. This all takes place in a freely accessible world while following the linear story you're up to a little gating not restricted. Skills There are also, which are not tied to the character, but to the equipment. As you look at the compiling of individual parts and upgraded, etc., but that is no less complex.

Perhaps it is easiest to describe really as the game ARPG, and indeed quite old school: here you will not be led by the nose by the landscape and can not go wrong, quite the opposite! The most important thing MH3U separates from other RPGs, the focus is on hunting monsters. You start the single-player story in the village of Moga, and ended it there as well. In other areas, of which there are quite a few, although there is a lot to discover and explore, but primarily they are hunting grounds for the various monsters. You will not eventually fight his way through the wilderness in a second city, and then from there continue questing; the multiplayer quests start in a second city, which can be easily reached from the outset. In the story you protected while on paper or LCD Moga village, but of course you also do this mainly because it frees the reach of Moga from areas of monsters. I think I made my point: MH3U does have more to offer than just hunt monsters -> kill -> next monster, but the title is not quite a lie anyway.

Now comes the question: Well, if the game is so focuses on the hunting of monsters, this will probably be exciting? Bingo! The combat system in MH3U is one of the best ARPG martial systems that I have seen in recent years. Anyone who has played Dark Souls (PC / PS3 / Xbox360), will feel right at home immediately. Each weapon has a different feel, each beat has weight, every mistake is punished and easy to mashen only X is a sure way to despair.

Instead, you have to deal with each weapon. The game tells the Hunter Notes Although what buttons you have to press to make that attack, but that's only half the battle. With the Long Sword I can for example press X to make a serious attack, and A to time just to poke so, or X + A together for a retrograde step. I X-> A-> X can speak used as a rotation (ie keep repeating X, A, X, X, A, X ...) and then held the blows without delay, a game does not tell so directly. Now there are only two buttons, of course, not any flexible combos, still works here every weapon differently. Some weapons can eg keep Angriffsknöppe also forced to charge a stronger attack, etc. There is also a weapon with R yet each specific specialty. During the Great Sword eg blocks with R, I can at the Long Sword implement the built with X and A "Spirit" having R in rapid Spirit attacks, and when the last attack hits, I get for a while a buff of the sword can illuminate beautiful and, more importantly, I can do more damage. With the Lance disallowing contrast with R again, can storm alerdings with R + X + A. With the Switch Axe to build the weapon to a sword, or back to an ax. And so on. And these were small at first only melee weapons; There are also sheets and "Bow Guns" that operate logically different. In place of combos here partly the ammunition selection, because there are a lot of different effects that can be achieved with different ammunition.

The struggle is so * far * away in MH3U from today otherwise often usual, predigested MMORPG fare. Nix Select with opponents and key mashen while merrily hopping to avoid being hit. No. Each beat will be considered if you do not want to risk hitting into the void and then impaled during the animation from behind. The same applies to items that are used. "Healing Potion" sounds only times well, but it takes much more do his time to being drunk ... Just the movements of the monster must be learned in order to make the right attack at the right time. A life bar there is the way for the monsters do not, instead catch the monster stop sometime to limp or drooling etc. to indicate that they are slowly but surely am perishing. After the fight you then accordingly the feeling of having accomplished something, and this is the main incentive in this game. You get absolutely nothing thrown behind; each geschaffte fight is something for which we may be hit safely times yourself on the back, at least once you get out of the tutorial.

Tutorial? So now you get but chewed something? Well, not quite. There are at the beginning of a relatively short tutorial, where the game gives an introduction to the operation. Then there is then an "Advanced Tutorial", in which you only do not realize that you're still in the tutorial. But at least if then begin with the Quests with three stars the monster really be something bigger going on a light. Because that's another thing that needs to be said here once as I think: In the beginning MH3U may be dead boring if you would pick up with the expectation to compete against the same impressive giant monster. Instead, one collects only once before the village herbs. Relatively soon after, you will be familiar with the hunter guild and takes the first quests, but they are at the beginning and only once relatively tame.

Quests of the hunter guild are then also the mechanism by which the largest part of the struggle, but also exploring the world or even trips are implemented to collect material. One can namely indeed quite easy walk from the village out, other areas are then but apparently only by boat and by guild rules accessible. Assuming a quest, you can travel by boat to the finish area. Once there, you start in a base camp from which Quest can also be canceled again when objects must be delivered.

Quests can have different objectives. Many have to, as might be expected, hunt monsters. Add extra work you will be rewarded for addition, such as certain resources collected or monsters found in addition can improve the content significantly. In some quests you must also capture alive, which is not particularly clearly explained and so at the beginning can only times lead to frustration Monster. In other quests you have, however, just gather resources or certain fish fishing etc. This too can again lead to frustration, because you can once a quest is accepted, no longer access his gear box and is only possible via the mitgeschleiften objects as well as a few relevant, provided by the guild available feature.

Of course you can always cancel the quest again, equip, and start over, but if you notice that the correct fish with the wrong bait not bite after a quarter of an hour, or one at a catch-Quest the one asked by the guild shock event in the has put sand, then that's just a waste of time. The frustration is not particularly difficult to prevent: One can, after all, its own case crafting or * before * making smart, which lures you need (for the first time where this happens with the fish, the game is anyway quite clear, because one previously relatively abruptly with two children the ingredients for the bait in the hand pressed gets ...) Only if no one makes the homework, then you will be punished mercilessly by MH3U. I take the positive; if I can not make any mistakes, then I finally can not do anything right, right?

The quests are repeatable, if you want because, for example, to go to a particular place or a particular hunt monsters. Also, there are quests with no fixed destination where you simply travels only in the selected region and there then after a minimum of two minutes but otherwise without further restrictions may terminate the camp the mission again. Sounds boring, but that's nothing you have to do, but simply the way to travel in any area and to explore the then or to gather resources or just there to hunt by their own rules. Another option is to hunt before the village. Defeated monsters dive there on sooner or later and the chief's son can make a prediction when to what is in front of the village.

Why gather resources or hunting on their own account? As I said there is one in MH3U, well, more than a crafting system. From collectible resources (plants, ore with the Pickaxe, insects to the network, fish with a fishing rod) can be produced useful items over a based on combinations of two Items System. And everything from simple healing potion on food, tools, bait, ammo, etc. Combinations of only two items is not quite as restrictive as it sounds at first, because the items produced in this way can in turn be combined with other again. At the same time, there is a separate system, are produced for the weapons and armor, and upgrades. In order to produce a weapon, one needs not only materials, but also money for the blacksmith. If the weapon or piece of armor only made once, they can be upgraded, in which one is purchasing more, rare materials and the blacksmith's more money. For each start-weapon (several per type), there is a whole, branching tree of upgrade paths. This may therefore be a certain amount of effort. Sooner or later you will also definitely several different weapon sets that are tailored to different types of opponents. As if that were not enough, you can with everything you expand so also collects even the village Moga.

Is MH3U so scabby (for the Austrians: Grind-heavy)? To a certain extent determined. You * must * not to experience the story. But if you, for example, early in a second set of armor will, then you can decide just whether the first not completely dwarf-like monsters (the Great Jaqqi) a few times hunting in order to afford all parts, or if you wait a while to it happens often enough ran across his path. On the other hand Grind is MH3U not necessarily comparable with games where you stupid skin through hundreds of trash mobs. First, you need hundreds of inactivity, secondly, the struggles are just yet significantly more exciting. If you just want money, you can always grow anything besides still expensive at the farm, just have a look through the collected plants and insects as if what is and is then added to the cats on the farm for cultivating. (Cats? Sure. Japanese game. Approximately one-third of the population speaking cats ...)

So you then therefore takes place through the story and realize at some point that the character information still stands: Tier 1 Oha? But that's easily explained. The story in the village of Moga is intended as a pure single-player portion, and also provides many hours of content. If that's not enough, but that can take the boat to port Tanzia, comparable with Moga hub for multiplayer quests. As for multiplayer, the 3DS does not support only local multiplayer with other 3DS or Wii U. For online multiplayer you have to grab here for Wii U version. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile in any case, to make the trip times. Firstly, there are again a few other traders, on the other hand you can send via StreetPass taken other Hunter on trips here. In addition, you can of course make the whole multiplayer quests alone. This is of course difficult, but perhaps exactly what you want? One thing is certain: Alone or with friends, here are again many to spend many hours of playing time ...

Those who wonder now, when I finally begin with the technical side: Since there's really not much to say, mainly because there is not much to complain about. The control with the built-in buttons works just fine, only the camera is a bit fiddly. Where you can but surely remedied with the Circle Pad Pro (I do not own themselves, so it is not necessary to play MH3U!). The touch screen is better used than in any other 3DS game that I own: He is in fact divided into different pads that you can put together yourself. For example, you can create a large map on the touch pad, or a smaller or no and for buttons with which one has direct access to items or controls the camera. Or one lies down instead to the second camera D-pad button it can intrude on a bigger monster with, etc. Thus you can adjust the control to a certain extent on their own ideas. The graphics are also quite good; who still plays on the PC will not of course be quite so torn from the stool, but for the 3DS, the quality is definitely top. 3D enhances the impression again and is actually useful, namely especially if you are traveling under water and there can better estimate distances thanks to 3D. What is also still nice that you can optionally turn off the entire HUD on the top screen. Finally, one can put all the required information on the Touch Pad. So the environments in 3D come again to better advantage.

I give the game five stars because it is currently in short one of the best games on the 3DS is (I own the 3DS since launch and almost 20 games for old DS games do not count). If that game is fun, the can certainly expect no exaggeration with hundreds hours of play without the game stops anyway.

This review is from: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (video game)
I have played MHFU then the predecessor MH3 and had a playing time of over 1000 hours.
Now I immediately ordered the new Monster Hunter and it's really great! Although it is the same old village Moga and the old farm -.- but can play the new "city" in the Man together with friends is really great! Now the graphic that looks good on the 3DS Really.
The controls are good but under water a bit difficult, so I bought the Circle Pad Pro, and I can really recommend it because it is much easier with the pad. I played games for about two hours as it lunch has arrived only now and again have as much fun as in MH3.

This is simply the best 3DS game and I can only recommend everyone because it really very much fun!

So do not think twice but Buy!
