As there are few reviews for PS3 as a Blu-Ray player here, I wanted to clarify some points here. On the one hand I got the PS3 Slim yesterday and I have previously used the "old" PS3. I have only two games, since I use the console as a DVD, Blu-Ray and DLNA Player. The console itself is processed not cheap, as some feared here. Quiet it is also all and since they no longer consists of piano lacquer, it no longer looks so dusty. Having connected the console to my Denon 4308A receiver, now finally works DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD sound via bitstream. That went with the old PS3 not because the chip could transmit the data only as LPCM. For the people who are eager to have the best sound, this is the right choice. The DLNA client is indeed pretty good, but I've seen better. It lacks some codes in the PS3 and my server has to convert the video, which is quite expensive. My Samsung TV can do better. Also one can not stop at DLNA videos and see further later on this point. The video begins again from scratch. However, if you have videos in richitgen format (also HD), it works, Gigabit provided, easily and in an intoxicating quality. I've been using as a DLNA server TVersity with some Tweeks to Qulitätssteigerung.
PRO: + Very fast Blu-Ray player with the latest Blu-ray profiles + (Tested DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD) With PS3 Slim bitstream HD audio possible + DVD upscaler good but especially can be switched off (if the receiver can better) + If you do not have a surround receiver, the HD audio can, you can receive the channels via LPCM + DLNA client works perfectly with support formats + Quieter than old PS3
CONTRA: - New Photo-application only with local photos (no DLNA photos) - DLNA could support more formats - DLNA client remembers the point in the video is not where you left off - No WLAN Draft-N
