Selection criteria were:
- SCART connection (unfortunately needed because operated on an older second TV)
- The marketing specified in the product description: "The ProReader drive reads virtually any video format, providing you with the absolute certainty that all discs that you insert, are also played"
Both promises are not fulfilled:
- The unit has no SCART output, but only a red-white-yellow RCA output. An adapter RCA to SCART is though, so you can, for example, but no longer connect the audio outputs to an external stereo system.
- Despite ProReader-LW the unit has immense problems with my self-burned DVDs (Philips HDD / DVD recorder). Thankfully, the device breaks the DVDs not complete on how the TEVION "freezes" at the end of his lifetime, but only one. With a couple of times PLAY / PAUSE he plays "somewhere further". The ProReader marketing promise, however, is completely absurd, because the machine freezes in nearly every second home-burned DVD.
Although the DIVX / MP4 ability was not a purchase criterion, but also proves to be useless:
- The device has no audio codec AAC sound, but only for MP3. This means that all AVI / MP4 container, in which the AAC sound "by coded" was to remain silent on the device. For me it is about 70%, the remaining 30% are MKVs that the DVP ere can not read.
- Interestingly, the device displays but the (superimposable) subtitles, which were created with Nero Digital, a task that fail due to the other player (no AAC sound but helps not really).
I am so far failed because of finding an improved firmware that issue AAC sound (for instructions, I am grateful).
Another shortcoming is the noise: The DVP tinkers in the bedroom. . As long as the movie plays, the sound is (if one actually exists - see AAC codec problem - louder than the drive noise is the film expired (and you fell asleep maybe), then wakes you surely the cheap mechanics: unfit for bedroom purposes ,
On the pro side are thus only Dimensions (very narrow, fits on the bookshelf) and the lack of any display (no LED light orgy that shines in the bedroom with the Moon vied).
Conclusion:
In the bedroom wg. Drive noise unusable, despite the lack of pleasant time LED light orgy (1 star deduction) for MP4s / AVIs wg. lack of AAC audio codec only restricted not complied available (1 star deduction), ProReader marketing promises (1 star deduction). SCART adapter only crutch (1/2 star deduction).
Overall a (thank God only) 40 expensive white elephant.
