This Asus router has been since now 9 months with me in operation. He could simply everything that I had to demands of a modern router:
- Gbit LAN / WAN
- 2.4 and 5GHz WLAN
- Several guest WLAN (also in both bands; different guest WLANs with or without access to local networks)
- VPN (access on the go with your mobile phone to the mp3s of your home server, no problem!)
- DynDNS (account directly in the router buildable with Asus-specific domain)
- High transmission rates in the LAN that do not break when you're active on multiple lines
- Relatively high WiFi coverage (vertically further than horizontal - ie in my bedroom barely reception, but when neighbors one floor below and other home page)
What I did not use the two USB ports, as I have, etc. are elsewhere network printer servers that are connected to switches.
There was believable recently in September to update the firmware. There is thus still updated!
But with the launch of EA / Dice's Battlefield 4 followed problems that me only after a long Testerei and (of course) only suspicions against EA / Dice (Origin) as an evil of which were holding to investigate the router closer. Background: with the appearance of games addons (China Rising), I never got beyond 61% of the downloads. I really (installed HTPC with Win7 Origin - same problem) tried everything.
As yesterday yet another "normal" game update came and this has remained constantly depend also at 92%, I disconnected the router and my PC directly to the cable modem (Unitymedia) connected (after reboot modem and PC Lan adapter that worked then also). This step falls in retrospect to logic, but connected me with the "effort" to hang a sufficiently long cable to PC / modem as a switch between still is otherwise. And Zack. All downloads are running through.
Well, hung routers and switches between the modem again. Origin restarted (stupid tool), it will download the update again ... (Why do only EA / Dice) and hangs at 92% again. How well I had already bought testweise another router, which I have now in operation. But this was bought for a different reason:
The Asus router had problems, the DNS Server with Unity Media to for weeks "negotiate", so I was here already rely on the input of alternative DNS server. The new router I have no more problems with the default DNS servers of Unitymedia.
Well, who does not have such specific problems (they can still get), for which the router is a good choice to be far from simple even depose WLAN routers something and be able to use more features in its private (W) LAN.
I had to sort out the Asus router unfortunately yesterday. Something just does not. I guess at the end of a lack of support UPnP function. But I am not a technician, in order to say that with certainty.
At the end remains: what use one all the really great features when it vastly hitch on one or two corners? I'll see in a few months time if new firmware updates might overcome this shortcoming. Because the new VPN router from TP-Link, unfortunately has the disadvantage that is the configuration of VPN access much more complex. And he has no guest WLAN feature, etc.pp.

I have the router for a few weeks in operation. The above problems were to change the IP (Unity Media) and play the latest firmware then "sometime" eliminated. Unitymedia there was at the very beginning probably, among other things in addition to IPv4 a IPv6 assigned, which led to problems in the LAN. By using at least one alternate DNS server, you can also permanently circumvent the problems of your provider.
The router now gets from me the full 5 stars. Although I would have liked the firmware updates a bit earlier, at least there is Asus which!
