Update (28.1.2012): The support of WD has at last responded - after 14 days and 4 mails, and after I announced the return of the equipment in the 4th mail. Meanwhile I had found out that the Mac access works via SMB, but the Apple File Protocol (AFP) is no longer supported. I had also communicated to the support from WD. Quality of responses: Poor would be flattered: Excerpts: "If AFP does not work, you can if you can use SMB but to access your data, may I ask you to try it." - Oh great, great help. "With firmware issues a new installation of the firmware and then a reset of the My Book World to the factory settings must be carried out." - Well fine, then all of the stored data is gone, so I would need on an external FP cache. Takes hours, besides, I have not. In summary it can be said that the support sucks. A problem-solving has not been possible by an initially good product only very limited use. Fortunately, the problems occurred on shortly before the 2-year warranty ...
After setting up the WD firmware update end of November 2011 to version 01:02:12 you can not connect with a Mac to share folders, regardless of the OS X (10.6.8 and 10.7.1 both: no connection possible ). Resetting and restarting will not help. Securing means Time Machine still works. Access via Windows XP works well. Support from WD does not answer, since now 8 business days. Too bad, a first really great product is now only very limited use, therefore, instead of 4 star now only 1 star possible.
