High quality appearance:
The tablet is very thin. Knappe 6.5 millimeters thickness are almost too thin. If you put it on the table flat one has had problems to get it lifted with one hand. This thin form factor combined with the low weight of 270g, and the big 8 "display makes a very high-quality impression. At the top and bottom of the display there are small, barely noticeable slots, representing the speaker holes. At the edge there are two small flaps. One of them is the USB port, the other SD card slot. On the upper right corner is the speaker terminal. In addition to the power button on the right side, there is also a speaker as the only rocker buttons on the edge of the tablet.
All in all, the tablet looks very carefully processed and is in my opinion a quality of an iPad to nothing after. On the left edge there's an external "loading" in which you can without the flaps to open the tablet loaded with a corresponding magnetic charging cable / or a docking station. (This cable / dock are in the accessories to buy).
If one keeps in mind that this tablet with this form factor unlike its competitors even to 1.5m is waterproof, Sony presented here really neat!
Display:
Higher than in the FullHD resolution (1920x1200 pixels) and therefore knackscharf. The readability is thanks to the extremely high brightness of the display in sunlight very well; especially since when I think back to my old Nexus Tablet! Generally act photos while viewing very natural to me. One shortcoming is the lowest brightness level for me. . These acts at night when there is no light source to me a little too bright, since I have this problem on the phone, I have created Abilfe: With a Gratisapp (Night Filter) can be additionally down throttle the brightness still below the minimum value on head pressure and possibly also. change the color composition. For nocturnal reading I like increased reds and blues decreased because a blue rather keeps awake because it mimics natural light. Except for this small shortcoming I have nothing to say on this excellent display.
For preserves: Hardware
It jerky nothing, not even for complex games or HD video apps.
For electronics, I do not express myself here. She is currently (2014/15) with the best you can get and should be sufficient for the next 3 years probably. This is I think the computing innards said everything.
Memory: The free space after unpacking my 16GB version of the tablet amounts to 11.5 GB and is expandable with microSD cards.
The camera takes decent pictures. Just such as you would expect from a tablet / smartphone. No more and no less. More I write this not because I for photos anyway back grab an "old-fashioned" digital camera because they are still not trumped by a tablet camera. Maybe in a few years, but until now not yet. ;)
The front camera also offers an acceptable quality and enough for Skype, Selfies OAE.
Speaker.
Seen from the front at the top and bottom center of the tablet 2 speakers (stereo so) on the tablet. This can not be seen almost, because it is just to thin slits. The sound is clear enough imo, but lacks as with all these small speakers on bass.
Software:
Sony has here a very tidy own interpretation of Android at the start. Aside from the typical Sony style and div. Standard preinstalled apps like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google services, there are also Sony-only Apps. This includes a music service, the excellent Walkmanapp that Playstationapp and many more. The whole thing has been but rather subtly branded by Sony, so everyone can which apps they want to have to decide for themselves and which are not. One can almost remove all non systemic Apps and is thus not to be forced as in other manufacturers keep these apps. Free with on board is also a powerful document-reader app, which is normally in the present version with costs and I do not want to miss.
The Playstation app I want to highlight special. This makes it possible, if you own a Playstation 4, display the game content on the tablet via Wi-Fi. For a TV shows and the other plays the time being virtually on the tablet. A nice gimmick in my opinion. Above all, it works fine without significant or highly annoying latency. (Apart from being too small screen ;-))
Battery:
In normal use between 5-6 hours. In Staminamodus (integrated battery saving mode) and dark display one creates sometimes even a bit more than 7 hours.
That's it for Tablet. Wirlkliche flaws I noticed GNTB. After a total of 4 months mobile use at work (and now also at home) not one. The only drawback I have already mentioned and that was the too bright at night display. For this, however, it haunted remedy in the form of an app.
As Schutzülle I use an ultra thin Smart Cover from the accessories. The total thickness now amounts to ca.10,5mm. Thus, the tablet is very easy to store and also replaced now, thanks to the clear display, next to my old tablet also my old e-reader. Quasi 2 flies caught with one stone. ; _)
In view of the low price in relation to the performance offered (Cutting-edge hardware, operating system updates, water tightness and very good processing) there are of me a clear recommendation to buy Sony's superclass tablet in the middle price segment!
Addendum: 01/03/2015: A few more notes:
Battery: I have found that the built-in power saving mode (Stamina mode) can be improved by the Wi-Fi connection settings the separate power saving option is activated. No idea why this is not enabled by house, but I come with the tablet now to over 9 hours Bildschirmeinschaltzeit during normal surfing behavior! A worse-Fi connection I could not find by turning this option also. Well folks, all power saving options turned on! It is worthwhile and saves battery power!
For water tightness: I really wonder why so many here not think worth the watertight integrity of the Z3 Tablets as, or dismisses as not worth mentioning added value.
To sit with the tablet in the bathtub is absolutely no problem. My new hobby is now in the bathtub to "surf" without fear of having that any moisture indicators are triggered in the tablet (= Garantierverlust) or worst case the entire part is broken because of carelessness.
Another advantage is that the tablet can be removed without difficulty under running water with Spüli fingerprints and the like scribble. That I would want for my smartphone also rauszubekommen especially around the dirt from the fine cracks / Öffnunge ....
For magnetic charging cable for the side, Docking connector: This is basically functioning properly, however, it is due to the thinness of the tablets often a little tweaking that this Magnetdock richig snaps equal / find the right position. To It looks like this shortcoming finally the successor through an open and at the same time waterproof Micro USB port to be history.
For keyboard:
I've discovered that Sony offers several keyboards here which you can change in the keyboard setting. On the one hand to be a that fills the entire bottom of the screen, the other is called "mini keyboard" and in landscape mode only on the right side of the screen is to operate with only one hand / thumb.
Then there's the Thumb Keyboard, which reduced the keyboard and divided into 2 halves. This then carries down the left and right edges of the tablets and make it very convenient, just with the two thumbs, according to the 10-finger system keyboard division, with the two thumbs to text. With practice I am sure even faster than for example. with Swype as I can write almost flawlessly and so often faulty autocomplete not need.
All in all I can now only repeat for something more than a month of private use of the tablets:
In view of the low price in relation to the performance offered (Cutting-edge hardware, operating system updates, water tightness and very good processing) there are of me a clear recommendation to buy Sony's superclass tablet in the middle price segment!
