A masterpiece of electronic music - Epic and Monumental

Spiral (Remastered Edition) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Full unzweifelbar heard Vangelis' 1977's "Spiral" in a series with as epochal feats such as Jean Michel Jarre's "Oxygène" and power station "The Man Machine". It is an absolute masterpiece and comes from the pioneering years of electronic music. At that time, as the aforementioned LP's published (1976-78), were sounds as of JMJ and Vangelis and still new and completely unknown in the music world ,.
"Spiral" is compared with "Oxygene", for example, much more monumental, epic and especially massive. As one reviewer already remarked before me, a skin the "Beethoven 'resounding" actually made the socks. The opener and title track, "knows from the beginning to captivate. Mystical Sounds, Stereo shenanigans and wide synth soundscapes paint musically a bleak landscape before then in" "a little quieter times Ballad. Comparatively discreetly arranged one hears nevertheless the Lord Vangelis even sing in person, even if only in the background. This is quite often the case and represents what is really special.
"Dervish D." is the mitreißendste and most powerful song on the album and provides for me and seen in the context of one of the best compositions of Künmstlers there at all. Even the melody at the beginning is now hanging in the ear, this is a driving rhythm, to instrumentation numerous and the atmosphere is more dense. As with Vangelis' song "Alpha" of "Albedo 0.39" of 1876 (also awesome!) Here is built the entire song from a single simple melody on each other, more and more repetitive fragments and tools are added until all in one sound Climax climax and end place ... and the listener leaves excited and speechless. Chapeau!
Seiote 2 of the LP begins with "To the Unknown Man", which is very similar strukturioert, this mala owever much quieter and more melancholy. A steadily again bring a founding motif initiates the song, and one after another are added other instruments. The whole epic covers 9 minutes and then goes smoothly into "3 + 3", the "weakest" Song of the plate, if one may put it that way. It forms in my ears the finale of the album, the tail, with which the work closes with all its enstpannt force and power, virtually all the calm after the storm.

What Vangelis has conjured up here with "spiral", has no equal. No other artist of this genre has managed to integrate beautiful, almost minimalist melodies in such a colossal, rousing arrangements. Not even Jean Michel Jarre achieved such a stand-alone and complex resounding that acts so much of a piece. Vangelis is actually a modern classical composer who writes little suites and they agreed to form a whole.
In addition, he acts more playful and relaxed manner, less top-heavy as Jarre, yet complex. This allows even beginners and newcomers at Vangelis' music, quickly gain access to his works and to dive into his soundscapes.
"Spiral" is perfectly suited. An epoch-making, music and historical compositional masterpiece.
