The Sony Ericsson W890i is a real eye-catcher. With its sleek design in silver aluminum shell is drawn in advance the attention. The processing is exemplary, the battery cover is securely locked laterally, but also easy to remove if necessary. The very small keys have a pleasant pressure point and let yourself easily and accurately operate surprising with my giant paws. The phone features are good, the other side is always to be understood clearly. Disconnections, could be read as in some tests, have not occurred in me. It is true, however, that the signal quality varies greatly when the UMTS reception. While my old W850i has displayed at my house always 4 to 5 bars signal strength, continuously varies the signal at the W890i 1-5 bar. Since I do not use UMTS, I have turned off the UMTS function of the mobile phone and the GSM signal is even in basements and elevator shafts always at least 3 bar and therefore even better than the W850i. Anyone who attaches importance to UMTS, should test the phone extensively beforehand. The display is almost always, even in direct sunlight, perfectly legible and sharp. A Ambient light sensor always ensures the correct illumination of the display, so that it is dimmed in the dark and not very hidden. The camera with its 3.2 megapixels delivers despite the lack of autofocus surprisingly good images, is in very dark environments lack photo light but virtually useless. But for snapshots, it is more than sufficient for the "right" images I use a real camera. The heart of the SE W-series is of course the Walkman, and as such makes the phone a very good job. The sound is impressive, but still room for improvement. By manually adjusting the equalizer can get out the phone a little more. The included in-ear headphones can be adjusted by three different sized papers at different ear canal diameter and sit firmly in the ear. The Walkman software is very easy to use and clear. To the main menu provides access to all media and initially sorted according to these photos, music and videos. Playlists are easy to create and manage. The software automatically creates lists of songs that were frequently or not at all played. The SensMe function, the music to match your mood by (fast, slow, happy, etc.) is a nice idea, but is not used at all by me, because I always just metal depends on the memory card :-). In addition, can only use the SensMe function when the music was broadcast by the Sony Ericsson software for switched SensMe option on the mobile phone. The two-gigabyte memory card offers enough space for Ettlich hours of music. Officially a maximum of 4 GB are great cards supported by the phone, but I have used an 8 GB card, which works almost perfectly: When you connect the phone to a Windows PC the 8 GB memory card is not recognized by PC (shown with 0 bytes ), but can be administered normally via the included software from Sony Ericsson and loaded with music, etc.. Although the large connector on the side of the phone reduces the great minimal design of the device, but has some advantages for owners of older Sony Ericsson models like K750i and W850i: chargers and headsets of old models can continue to use with the W890i, which is especially paktisch is, if you like me has a charging cradle for the W850i. Very beautiful are also the themes with animated wallpapers, but if you really need this, each is left to itself. Of course, the phone also has some shortcomings, but not really worthy to be strong: - The lack of photo light is now also no longer flashlight, which can be already practically during a power outage. However, I have used the flashlight function the W850i only once and miss them when W890i not really. - The memory card slot is located under the battery cover, making it not as easy to reach as the K750i or W850i. The battery is, however, does not have to refer to changing the card, making the mobile phone also does not have to be shut down. - The volume of the alarm can not be set (I have not found so far at least) and increases from very quiet to loud slowly. Positive should be noted here that the alarm can be set so that it at muting the phone yet heard / not heard. I angetestet short The internet function and am quite dissatisfied with the supplied browser. Fortunately, however, can install Opera Mini. The W890i is not listed in Opera, but allows the installation package for the W880i to the W890i transfer and install (works fine).
All other functions such as e-mail, games, radio, the pre-installed Google Maps, etc., are not used by me, which is why I also do not want to rate it.
All in all you get with the W890i an excellent processed, very nicely-designed mobile phone with a very good MP3 player and good camera. Those who value UMTS, should, as mentioned above test, the unit previously better extensively. Even the very small keys are certainly not for everyone and should be tried before.
