Own Experience:
There is no scanner in the traditional sense, the minutes scanning the negatives and slides, pixel by pixel, but actually photographed a built-in mini-repro camera negatives and slides and on the hardware implemented software (actually a contradiction!) In JPGs converts and saves on SD card. This is extremely quick and easy - a quad-negative strip is processed and stored in 20 seconds. This procedure runs completely independently of the PC due to the included USB AC adapter standalone. The SD Card can be found at a later time and read it into the PC.
This is usually also needed: Depending on the footage used it comes - with the exception of very good and properly exposed outdoor sunlight shots that are dissolved instantly perfect and also for normal needs sufficient - color shifts that need to be touched up on the PC. This applies in particular for shooting in low light conditions. While the device has a built-in brightness and color correction, but due to the small screen, the results are not really meaningful. Photoshop and the like can be better and kontollierbarer. Due to the high static charge is also always to be reckoned with lint and dust - the must wegretouschieren - and the costs, of course, depending on the claim time!
Summary:
For ordinary consumers who want to archive their old slides and negatives on PC or consider only in reasonable quality, a thoroughly recommended solution that could still stand improvement (autofocus with vaulted negatives, even better resolution sensor, metal housing prevents static, better accessibility opal for cleaning). Invaluable advantage compared to a traditional scanner is the time distribution: while scanning for minute-long puzzle per recording, this is the Rollei DF-S 290 HD a matter of 2 seconds. Time and effort for the post can then dispose depending on quality itself.
Last, but not not least:
For scanners that are the Rollei DF-S 290 HD really superior quality, can be loosely quoted 10 times the price of what it is worth, in my view, only in the semi-professional. For the average consumer this device is quite sufficient and provides a reasonable compromise between price, performance and expenses.
