Having since launch follows the development of the WeTab and have the bad start and partly scathing criticism followed, I once waited. The device has but I'm interested in conceptually from the outset and to 2.0 and the positive reports to which I have decided after the last software update me, me zuzulegen even a WeTab. Now, after more than 2 weeks of intensive study of the device, I can say that I'm thrilled.
My motivation for the acquisition of the WeTab:
The WeTab has not been purchased as a working tool in order to write lyrics for hours, because that I have enough computers with hardware Tatstaturen in the office and at home. For working on the go - so write texts and use PowerPoint and Excel - I have laptops and also for video and image processing at home fast calculators. From the outset it was clear that it (only) should serve to couch surfing, e-mailing, the morning reading articles on the Internet and eBooks on the go, which is why I decided for the 32GB version with UMTS. I also wanted to listen to music and view pictures. I can, however, has repeatedly read texts and tables from MS Office and sometimes edit briefly, I opted for the WeTab. All these tasks can be done really comfortable and extremely comfortable with the WeTab.
Hardware:
The WeTab is my rd. 900 grams no lightweight as many Android tablets. Who has used at CEBIT chance and as I has to be considered Tablets viewed on almost every level with Android times and taken in hand, who knows what I mean. I myself also an Android tablet with 1.6 (Cupcake) from Asia, which although is also fun, but anmutet really cheap against the WeTab. The WeTab, however, is very pleasant in his hands. The weight anyway, is surfing on the sofa really no problem. The matt, slightly roughened surface on the back of it lies securely in your hand. Unlike many devices with piano finish it never slips even with dry hands out of his hand. Overall fit and finish makes a very sophisticated look.
To terminals has often been reported here. With 2 x USB, Headphone, 1 x SD, 1 x HDMI and UMTS slot, it is better equipped than many notebook computers. The inserted 8 GB card was recognized immediately without problems.
The screen is glossy, you need to know before buying. I can not understand that is fiercely bitched here again because of the reflections, however. That was when my Sony, the JVC subnotebook, the Acer, etc. This is due to the system for all such screens so and has nothing specifically to do with the WeTab. Since I knew that before you buy, I immediately ordered me an antireflective film for anti-reflective and to protect the screen. Besides the fact that the screen now is acceptable 'matt' fingers glide the multitouch even better than without foil. The functionality has therefore not suffered, on the contrary. I can only recommend to anyone. Resolution and contrast are great with foil. The only point deduction which I make is, in fact rooted in the 'short' battery life of approx. 4 Hours. At 2 hours longer I would have given 5 stars.
Unlike many reviews I can not confirm the alleged limited view axis also. Just as with the laptop I look anyway in most cases in the me comfortable angle to the screen. I put the WeTab not flat on the table and wonder that I will see nothing from the horizontal view. That does not work well with my laptop screens, I have to also set up. I'm also thinking the newspaper not flat on the table and look from top. On the sofa I have the WeTab in hand and determine the angle. For the table for hands-free reading at breakfast I bought an ultra small stand of Belkin, which also folded fits in your pocket and me an angle has like a laptop, would like me to keep a newspaper.
Software:
The operating concept of the WeTab has impressed me immediately. Although I really wanted to play immediately after purchase Windows 7, I now use the WeTab OS 2.1.1 because it is really innovative. The installation went by the way completely independent way after registration and entering some data. After about half an hour, the system reported that it is ready. No other tablet can then be as comfortable to operate with the thumb. After Update 2.0 multitouch working properly. My items can I am easily raise two fingers on the size I want. At the same time I always recognize in the left bar, where I am on the side.
It is no problem to open multiple windows. On the right side you can always recognize how many windows are open and switch with short tip. The ingenious surface also can switch at any time to be 'Desktop' and select one of the tiles, which can also easily create and quasi can use as a quick bookmark register. You come so directly to the preferred Inter pages, without having to first launch the browser. With the button 'Customize' can make its desktop background and all of the tiles themselves. Certainly, the number of apps is not very large. However, no important features are missing. Announced is the future compatibility of Android Markets.
Finally, right lie on the bar even buttons for 'Information' which allows you to set the battery level, speaker, screen brightness and enters the settings and the button for the 'window'. The button for switching on and off of the 'keyboard' and 'Help' complete the bar.
The connection to the own wireless network or Internet connection through the used prepaid card with me were done in a very short time. After that, the WeTab me logged automatically in our home and on the go, it uses wireless UMTS.
For the use of MS-Office files, the OpenOffice suite of Oracle is installed, read the files and all MS - who wants that - can be edited using external mouse and keyboard with this full-fledged office suite. Since the WeTab has 2 x USB, you can connect both a keyboard and mouse, and then use the WeTab with stand as a full-fledged PC.
For the mail traffic the preinstalled Mail program is used because it is optimized for multi-touch. The establishment of the own mail account goes very quickly, if you know the data of his mail provider. The same applies to the installed along with browser. Can not wishing to use these programs of course also install the Firefox, Google Chrome, etc., which are however not optimized for multi-touch.
My rating:
The WeTab is a great device with innovative user interface that does not match the pabulum of the Android Tablets. Multitouch and fast browsing function properly and who has, with help of OpenOffice also data from the MS Office world and process. Who wants to carry around a mouse and keyboard, can even work with it at the desk. Only the battery could last a little longer. Therefore, 'only' 4 stars. Otherwise, the WeTab is fun.
