Optics / haptics:
Optically, both cameras look almost identical. The controls are on familiar place and fit comfortably in your hand. Only the swiveling monitor makes the camera a few millimeters thick. Who previously had an almost sedentary camera bag, is therefore might need a new one.
Image Quality:
With two cameras we photographed with two scene modes at the same time identical motives (landscapes, macro, portrait, etc.). Both cameras have 16 megapixels, but the same motifs (with the same scene modes) exposed differently. Really bad, none of the images for a camera of this price range. The test went from a total draw.
Movie Quality:
Compared to the L810 L830 now has FullHD. Zooming during filming is not jerky, but softer. Which we liked. The microphone, there is no improvement. Once at outdoor shooting comes wind, noise noise is unavoidable with the position of the microphones. But this problem, almost all cameras without an external microphone.
Speed:
Here the huge advantage of the L830 comes into its own. Compared to the lens L810 on power moves significantly faster, focussed and zooms faster and the shutter lag is barely present. A significant advance. We were thrilled. In good light sporadically useful handheld shots are possible even at full zoom.
Quality:
Here I hope that read along the NIKON developers and I forgive only 4 stars !!! The rickety battery cover is just like the dam ... from the previous model and will break at some point. At the hinge is a plastic part of the camera will come off. That's what happened to us after about 100 battery replacements for less than 2 years of use and about 25,000 photos with the L810 and repair or goodwill / guarantee were denied us by the Nikon repair service. Love NIKON people: why did you in the camera otherwise great this last detail so sloppy?
Conclusion:
The new COOLPIX L830 has clearly risen to its predecessor, L810 and the purchase is (apart from the matter of the faulted battery cover) worthwhile. Especially vorzuheben are the swiveling display and the improved speed, rather allows snapshots.
After prolonged use, I will nachberichten as the L810.
