Sony Ericsson Xperia arc smartphone (10.67cm (4.2 inches) touch screen, 8.1MP camera, GPS, HDMI, HSDPA, WIFI, Android 2.3) Misty Silver (Electronics)

Customer Review

... Without exaggerated Lobes- and blame hymns.

First of all: the Xperia Arc is my first smartphone (previously had the "Samsung Innov 8") and accordingly was much anyway first new territory for me.

Own the Xperia Arc now for almost 2 months and am overall extremely positive surprised with a few limitations.
I use the phone on the E-Netz (BASE) and use it (logically) even for the internet, social networks, etc. (otherwise I would have risen even not a smartphone).
I initially had the leader, the Samsung Galasy II tends, I just then but ultimately cost reasons for the Xperia Arc decided ... The iPhone 4 was for me a number of reasons (too high a price, no removable battery, badly placed antenna etc never.)
a theme.

In the review, I also try to go only to the most important points, and not digress too much in every detail: the exact specification,
Dimensions etc. are anyway read anywhere.

Accessories:

The accessory equipment as such can always bad to include in the review with, as it turns out differently: in my example was unfortunately
no car charger there, but for a 16 GB instead of an 8GB memory card. A proper English manual was not there (I had to download my short on the Internet ... In "in-ear" headset the case was MMN was saved a bit: there is no clip to the whole zBam shirt collar to attach and it are only 2 buttons on the headset with which one can turn each forward or backward (for example, radio stations). in order to change the volume, or need to reconfigure the two keys to be specially Download an app, but this is free.

The charging cable can connect both via USB and via a normal power plug (in my opinion but clearly too short: when the
Cable has connected to a deep socket, it is even sitting for far too short in order to reasonably call).

Shape, appearance, display, Anschlüse:

The Xperia Arc has a beautiful, sleek and slim design (have "Misty Silver") and is also nice and light.
"Highlight" of course, which is slightly curved on the back inside the Xperiar Arc. The design according to one notices the Xperia Arc garnicht to which it is a "plastic smartphone" ... which is a but no later than when you open the battery cover clearly :-).

Despite anfanglicher consider it fits into a normal jeans pocket (assuming the pants are not too tight) and you can see it even when
run practically impossible ... At first but catch yourself repeatedly doing that one picks up in the pocket and sit down at the Smartphone for safety's sake
pulls out.

Apart from the volume controls, HDMI port, charging or USB cable connection and photo button (very commendable) has the Xperia Arc fortunately a
normal 3.5mm Headphone output so you can connect another headset than the one supplied.

Not quite optimal: The "On / Off" button located at the top of the smartphone and is very small, so you have to press all right firm to operate it (which already is very difficult with one hand).
Even the USB / battery cable connector, I would have rather wished on the bottom instead of on the side (because that makes the calls when charging cable is connected
not just easier).

The camera lens and flash are (as usual) on the back of ... a front camera, there is not, but for me would be also totally uninteresting.

Operation ("handling"):

The touch screen responds quickly and also writing SMS etc. (in landscape mode) works better than feared. A "touch pen" is therefore not
necessary (unless you're hands like "buckets" has).

The main menu or the "Home Screen" can be configured, so that you always have the most important (for a) functions on the main page or the main menu. At the lower end of the displays are still keys with the functions "Back", "Menu" and "Settings / Additional menu".

(Video) camera:

The camera is absolutely ok: shoots beautiful, sharp images (with or without flash) and nuisance are easy to operate: by "double-touch" on the display, or simply on the Photo button on the smartphone housing side.
Even with the video function is nothing negative I noticed, though I hardly genutz.

Music / MP3 / Radio / Files

Again, there is nothing to complain about, but I find the maximum volume on the radio a bit too quiet (I do not know if it ever this app are).
The radio itself works (of course) only when the headset is connected.
However, the speakers sound via your phone (for example when watching Internet videos or playing music) something rancid.

Stability:

So far I had not (yet) no crash. But also immediately a software update performed (on Android 2.3.3).

Calls and phone book:

With regard to the connection I could not find anything negative, but is also network-dependent ... although I would not now be described as perfect.
Also contacts can be (etc. email address, photos, separate ring tone) create or synchronize properly with lots of extras.

Internet, social networks and navigation / GPS:

The browser flutscht downright and the pages are built very quickly (E-network).
Thanks to the large screen can be read all the pages well and enlarge without problems.
In addition, there is a large app market with many free and paid (more or less meaningful) Apps.

The Navi feature works surprisingly well and it is recognized quite fast, even when auto-drive (sorry possible in enclosed spaces, such as in my apartment I have to go to the window with the Samrtphone).

Also one of the main reasons for choosing a smartphone social networks and it really is a beautiful thing ...
But ultimately everyone needs to know himself, for what he gives all his consent.
Apps for Facebook and Twitter for that matter and also synchronize with his email address, etc. is possible.

SONY ERICSSON Timescape:

This is really a Super function: SMS's, emails, social networking messages, missed calls, all you have at a glance and can do everything a row or retrieve abscrollen (Of course, depending on what has been synchronized).
Have Timescape on my main or Home Screen on your phone and virtually everything at a glance!

Battery life:

For me one of the most important criteria: after I've heard "horror stories" of other smartphone owners (eg, you have to charge the battery every day) I was first relieved that it still has its limits: I call several times a day, write sms and am every day with your smartphone on the Internet, but must still "only" invite every 2-3 days (if it is now on the phone for hours every day antürlich something else)
My tip: The Internetverbindun (s) always disable and not always let on: this saves much battery ... and the GPRS satellite links only enable if it is unbedint necessary anyway.
In addition, many unnecessary things can turn off or change (eg no mobile background, length of the backlight, vibrating with every key press, etc.) so that you can still individually extend the battery life.

The battery but at the beginning necessarily (as with any new mobile phone also) several times completely use up and reload, so it develops its full capacity.

Calendar:

There was one big ordeal: I had to see the calendar first synchronize cumbersome, ie create a separate Google mail account and then practically übertrgagen on the smartphone, which I first not at all ruffled ... have me then later a calendar app ("Smooth Calendar ", I can only recommend to anyone charged) down and can now luckily normally make calendar entries without each time going through Google Calendar. Completely incomprehensible why this should be so complicated and I do not just (like my previous phone) can register something ... a really big minus point. Fortunately, there are also apps with "Offline Calendar feature."

Alarm Clock:

Here it is probably again at first glance a more "subjective problem" as a smart phone is not a phone but a small computer when it is turned off and 100% is made and in which, the alarm function etc. in off state does not work.
There are for the "airplane mode", in which all data functions are disabled and etc. in which the smartphone is in a sort of "standby": So it's not really switched off but as the alarm on ... Problem: Skipping doses may, at some point stops the time in airplane mode, what has struck me since I let myself also still wake from my previous phone. (Have time etc. manually and not automatically). On Airplane Mode I renounce now, and let your smartphone at night in silent mode, the laufen.Vielleicht
Problem still not resolved with an update etc.
Ultimately, it is probably in all smart phones so that when they are out, they are also completely out, but it's a small (at least perceived) step backwards compared to my last mobile phone.

CONCLUSION: A top smart phone with a top price / performance ratio of the can (initially) do not allow second fingers a very strong buy recommendation!
In addition, (a subjective opinion of course, but ultimately the design stands out already!) The smartphone is unlike some other recent an eye-catcher
Negative encounter only (completely unötige complicated) calendar function and the less than optimal placed USB port on bzw.Ladekabel ... but ultimately no device is of course 100% perfect, but either better or worse than the other.

or otherwise: 90% and 9 out of 10 possible points!

In addition, the acquisition of the smartphone, but I still recommend a silicone / plastic sleeve and a good screen protector.
