Background:
I was looking for an electric glider, which is so small, light and slow that I (unlike my large electric gliders) can fly on the encircled of trees, meadow on the fast around the corner him for a long time.
Unfortunately there were previously only e-sailors who are flying and, qualitatively within the sphere toys. In addition, Micro-fly models due to the extremely low weight already in light wind or little turbulence very restless, so my experience with the Hobbyzone Champ and the parking zone Night Vapor (see my review, a nice little machine). Both are great aircraft but really nice to fly only by totally calm and just not got sailors who are my passion.
The etc. offered by Park Zone, E-flite Micro models with AS3X are there more interesting: AS3X is a Dreiachsengyroskop, accidental, and not controlled by the pilot changes in attitude about all three axes compensates. This small gusts and turbulence are ironed out, in strong wind then attack the limits of physics (40 grams are just not a lot ..). If you hold such a model in his hand and moved whirring servos constantly to himself, and the rudder move to compensate for these changes in position, turning, for example. The model around the vertical axis in a clockwise direction, whipped the rudder in the opposite direction.
The ASK21 of E-Flite was already in the right direction, but does not have a motor and the idea to shoot the airplane with the accompanying Hochstartset in the sky, only to max. Being able to fly 90 seconds (without thermals) made me forget the topic.
When the UMX Radian as equipped with AS3X little brother of the 2-meter-radians (which should be very well) then appeared, that was exactly what I was looking for. So bought:
Unpacking:
Little Radian comes as the manufacturer used in a good box with handle, which can be used later for good transport and storage. All parts are well housed in a polyurethane insert, with matching moldings for body and one-piece wing and plug-Styroblöcken that hold the parts in position unverrutschbar.
Assembly and quality:
To keep the board small, is - unlike the usual Micros -, the wing not yet mounted. This is done by two very small screws and is a bit fiddly. The installation should be done over a surface on which to fall down the screws in any good finds (otherwise in tall grass Happy hunting). What is needed is not included in the box slim long Kreuschlitzschraubendreher that fit supplied with the blade helicopters.
I let the wings of easy armed and have him because he does not sit very tight, locked with two adhesive strips. The plane I lay simply in a closet and do not pack it in the box in order to fly faster.
Otherwise, everything is already finished building: All control surfaces are mounted and ready hinged, only supplied black stickers for the underside of the wing have yet to be applied, which is recommended to increase the visibility of Radian in bright sky. The decor on the wingtips was sloppy glued on one side folds, on the other hand, a large air bubble, which is certainly better.
Otherwise, everything is just assembled, the oars are in the factory to neutral, to the left of the elevator that something is up. The latter could be eliminated partially by gently bending and would not negatively impact the flight of. The rigid foam obtained optically not quite the quality of eg. Multiplex models, but is ok
As with all Micro-models should be handled carefully by plane, the wing is quite thin, even thinner the tail. Hence landings are in a meadow and not recommended on a stubble field.
Weighing:
The manufacturer suggested gravity does not arise at central mounting of the battery in the front provided a hull cut, but significantly behind. Since I have no center of gravity balance, I have two Geodreicke plugged into an encyclopedia and secured the whole thing with a Einmachgummi. Not pretty, but it works.
Flying:
It is important to store completely quiet after connecting the battery the model, otherwise the AS3X and the receiver is not initialized. This initially fooled me because obviously insufficient even a slight tremor of the hand. It is better to put the model on the back so that wingtips and fuselage nose touching the ground. Then connect the battery and immediately let go, after 1 second you hear a noise, done. Then stickable battery, a short gas and then do not be surprised that the aircraft are nervous noises and the rudder move: The poor aircraft tried all hand movements compensate
After starting with just over half throttle the model is immediately fed into the air and doing a climb as if on rails, amazingly, I have never experienced in micro models. Start with full throttle is also without any problems, lammfromm the machine increases with amazing elevation gain, so fast that the model is nearing the limit of visibility before the first turn is necessary. When starting any tendencies to break off, tipping over a supporting surface etc.
In the following flight, the aircraft is slightly nice on the oars and can be controlled completely smooth. It has actually feel, as promised by the manufacturer that has a much larger model on the stick. Slight upswing and low thermals takes the machine to good, no wonder with the light weight. Slow flybys succeed right away and look beautiful. Slight headwind you can use to leave the machine on in the air to drift left and right, funnily enough, the model seems to be also partially reverse fly
The only drawback is a relatively strong sink rate when the engine and lack of thermal / thermal. A shifting of the battery brings all the way back here just little and leads in light winds to lower flight stability and a slight pump.
The landing is very easy: Just let flare with the engine off, pull slightly on the elevator, ready.
Overall, the model is likely required for beginners, no wind and a little guidance from an experienced pilot, be well suited. Attention: Then there is a remote control of spectrum necessary, I have had good experiences with the cheapest DX6i. This remote control is suitable and sufficient for other gliders and helicopters. If you are already one of the simpler remote control of Hobbyzone, Park Zone, E-Flite Blade have etc., should also work, I'm just not sure if the coverage is sufficient, since the small Radian quite makes height.
You should also order definitely more than one battery, costs approx. 4,50 Euro per piece and also fit all other micro-models of Blade, E-Flite, Park zone etc (include batteries of these brands as well as the above-mentioned range remote control and the E-Flite all at the same company and are compatible with each other)
Conclusion:
Wonderful Feierabend flyer for uncomplicated flight into the sunset or a lazy Sunday afternoon. In the air you actually think you have a great sailor to the clubs. Flies supple, unproblematic, even with light wind and just makes a lot of joy. Exactly what I was looking for a long time.
