Sony BDP-S470 3D capable Blu-ray player (1080p Full HD, Dolby True HD, DTS HD, iPhone / iPod Touch remote controlled, wireless ready) (Electronics)

Customer Review

After I spent the last year in order to buy me several players and each quite disturbing aspects have discovered that this led ultimately to the player re-sold or ended up as second or third unit in the bedroom and living room, I'm now finally satisfied.

The Sony player operates smoothly, quietly, quickly enough, compatible and no dropouts, stuttering, update problems and the like. For someone who just wants to enjoy only comfortable BluRay and a few convenience features would call his own, this player is perfect!

The players in detail:

Startup and Settings
*************************
Here trumps on the "small" Sony. Connecting work - as with any HDMI device - quite simple: HDMI, network and plug flow, enable players to finish. Working with a normal TV is just as easily as if the connection via AV receiver. You do not have to rummage through cryptic submenu to achieve a good picture and sound quality. Only one setting must be set to "OFF" when an AV receiver is used. The rest is almost automatically set and adjusted. After 5 minutes, the player was ready and also the software update has been downloaded and installed very quickly (DSL3000).

The S470 offers sufficiently good adjustment (although 95% of users will not need to change) and is simple to set up and use - it is a.

The players in the operation
****************
I tested this with and without AVR (Yamaha RXV465) on the following TV sets: were Panasonic TX46 plasma, LG 50PK plasma, Philips 37 "LCD In any case, the image was impeccable The sharpness (The TV sets by THX.. -Emfpehlungen set what contrast, color etc. relates) is excellent and rapid movements are reproduced stable - even at 24p playback occur no (plasma) or surprisingly little (LCD) streaks on, but the more on the technology. TV sets are due Unlike different devices from Panasonic, LG, Samsung and Philips, there was at no single BluRay any playback problems or interruptions Tested I have this with the known "problem children" Prince of Persia, Avatar, Inception, Terminator.. - Salvation and Sherlock Holmes: All films were (24p off and put on 50Hz, set menu in English, ...) without a workaround by properly the sound quality convinced consistently (Heco Victa, Magnat monitor Supreme).. The adjustable dynamics is not for everyone, but even in its standard-setting, most users are likely to be satisfied.

My S470 I hear in operation not (1.5m seat pitch) and certainly not if a movie is playing). Despite the rather thin construction and the small-looking fan, the device is not even lukewarm. BluRays start quickly, even if the drive might work sometimes a little faster. However, that's rather "whining at a high level". DVDs are very well scaled and also close to a large 1080p device you barely have to no loss of image quality.

Additional equipment
******************
The S470 has, unfortunately, no built-in memory for BD-Live and other Internet content. Here you have to so with any USB flash drive from 1GB help out, but that turns out quite simple: Stick connect and ready. Wi-Fi is also looking in vain. Both points are fulfilled only with the more expensive S570. But you get here 3D capability (after an update, see above), a relatively comfortable YouTube client, access to web offers of various television stations (sixx, Pro7, kabel eins, Euro Sport, ...), music streaming offers and also as the news channel of Bild.de).

Via Gracenote you can have a look at additional basic information about the inserted disc and via DLNA (not DNLA)) easily access data of an existing media server or PC. Even video on demand services you can run on the BD player, if you want them pay for this possibility and a sufficiently fast Internet connection offers.

A little gem can be the player also via iPod touch and iPhone control. Just download a small app for free and already kanns go.

Conclusion
****
Here Sony offers the complete package at a fair price: 3D, DLNA, Internet deals, BD and DVD playback in high quality, supporting SACD, easy setup and trouble-free operation without misfires, chapter jumps and jerks. Add to that a quieter operation and a relatively low power consumption and fast update server and a competent support. Rightly, this player has been always highly praised and awarded. If you want to make a more accurate picture, looks at past portals such as AreaDVD. I found on a true odyssey through various manufacturers warehouse in this player my current performance and can finally enjoy my movies without any concerns. Strong buy recommendation!
