I was to join in the search for an amplifier to him on the PC and listen to music at your desk. It should be a cheaper, smaller amp. So I came across the SMSL SA-98E. The reviews here on Amazon have convinced me to try out the amplifier. The packaging makes a good impression, the processing of the amplifier is perfectly fine and feels high quality. RCA and banana plugs are reliable. The Poti clean turns. Then I connected the power supply and it came the disillusionment: the power supply whimpers. I tried it with a rubber connector, at various power strips (also with mains filter) - without success. That does not inspire confidence impression. And has been confirmed after commissioning. The amplifier roars at idle. I want so compact 2-way drive LS, the stand about 1m away from me at the desk. The noise is quite high frequency and easy to locate. My PC is not which carried, but the noise from the speakers I hear out anyway. In addition, the uneven volume control. At low volumes, the left channel is louder. If you slowly from zero to turning up the volume, you can hear first the left channel, from the right is just noise. The potentiometer turns clean mechanically, but that's about it. Thus, quietly listening to music can not be connected to the amplifier and for me that is a KO criterion. Against the noise would possibly help a higher quality power supply, the uneven volume control should be slid onto the pot. I will return to SA-98E ... I'll buy me a new amplifier in which I can be equal to replace the power supply.
I have to say though, that the amplifier also a lot of fun: The sound is heavily dependent on the speakers used. But subjectively, I like the sound very well. The heights are perhaps a little sharp (some would call "analytical"). Bass-heavy music he dislikes more. If you turn the volume to about 30%, then the true stereo image, you can vote on the stage and places it sounds really great! About 50% (12 o'clock) I can not turn on because it would otherwise be beyond my small LS - the sound is also poor (Spitzer, tinny). The small box sounds very grown up and can fill a room. That speaks for the potential of Class D amps TDA7498E but SMSL has with the SA-98E unfortunately implemented only moderately.
