Below I would like my first experience with the Toshiba FlashAir 16GB WiFi SDHC Memory Card (Class 10) and, finally, to tell you for writing a review about this. I test the product in my daily life as an amateur photographer and would like to try to highlight its advantages.
- The interior of the SD card
The device via PC software (FlashAirTool) is intuitive, fast and easy by hand. It is recommended to format the card with the FlashAirTool and configure. You can assign the SD card a SSID + password, under which the card from other devices will be available. In addition, you can choose when and how the WiFi mode to be active. This allows additional battery consumption avoided by the use of the SD card.
I have decided that the SD card to your WiFi access point starts, when turning on the unit, in which it is located. If within a specified time (5 minutes) connects any device with an SD card, the access point is turned off and the battery is spared. Even if the device lies perform easily for me, is for novice users in the software, a relatively detailed help.
- Works Magic Lantern on the Toshiba FlashAir? Yes!
After the actual establishment way, I have also installed Magic Lantern me for my Canon EOS 600D on the SD card. As some Eye-Fi card with Magic Lantern does not work, it was to learn the more interesting to me, whether and how far the Toshiba FlashAir WiFi card with the add-on is compatible with Canon DSLRs. Surprisingly starts and everything works exactly as it should. For those interested, a nice touch!
- My first impression: The first test images
The first test: SD card in my Canon EOS 600D and there you go: A few photos shot.
Here, the card behaves like a normal SD card similar nature also. Even though I no precise measurements, you certainly achieved with the Toshiba FlashAir the achievable speed of the camera. This is usually (and probably especially in products that come with the use of this product in question) under the value that can be reached by some SDHC cards. I could not detect any case that Toshiba would work slower than the SanDisk Extreme (also 16GB and Class 10), I have otherwise stuck in my DSLR.
The captured images I display on the official Toshiba FlashAir Android app me first. The photos then could also be within a few seconds on the phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) transmit and paste the gallery. From there, the images can be shared or edit, for example, within other apps. The FlashAir app is not going to make themselves capable of more of the files. The app is also still in a very early stage, which is why it is also currently available only in English. In this respect, therefore, which could change rapidly.
Besides FlashAir app, there are also other apps that can work together with the FlashAir SDHC card. Alternatively, you can directly access the contents of the card [...] as far as one has connected to the Access Point or course classically use a card reader via the browser.
- The great advantage: it sent the speed with which newly shot images.
Whether you would like to send your own photos to your own laptop in order to assess the image immediately or be able to process individual directly, or whether you want to send the images directly on the Smartphone and Whatsapp to friends or family .. With the FlashAir one need not look equipped for special requirements.
Especially when working in the team, I ask myself the FlashAir be extremely useful if you, as a person, for example could take pictures without pause, while another can already access completed recordings.
- Use other than to Photography
The SDHC card can be according to Toshiba in all devices use that have an SDHC slot. Thus, the FlashAir could also be used for projects of another kind. The software is of course but still designed to be used with a digital camera.
- Conclusion: Exceeded expectations!
I must admit that I am surprised by the Toshiba FlashAir WiFi SDHC card in several points. I did not expect that this can be used as simple and efficient. The WiFi-functionality is a welcome addition for DSLRs or compacts.
I'm curious how this division will develop in the future and will probably have with my FlashAir much fun together and experiment with you a little bit! Especially as the technology behind it but still is quite new trendsetting, you will also as the owner of this card soon get even better (in the sense of more to the card cut) products and software. That would currently the only attachable criticism on my part, but it makes no decisive role in the evaluation for me.
Therefore, I can recommend the Toshiba FlashAir readily. With a 5 year warranty you should be able to deliver good results in the foreseeable future. Only the price could be for interested customers an eyesore. But as you have probably personally consider to what extent a is worth this additional.
