Updated on 12.04.2012:
Now, after about 2 months of operation, I have my original review from 4 stars to 3 stars VOREST reduce.
The reason: I have "save Digital Fax to Network Folder" a significant problem with the function. This feature is very wichig for our office and one of the reasons why I bought this unit at all. The digital faxes are saved, but the saved PDF files are considerably compressed and do not have the actual format.
After a couple of possible solutions of the HP support you are now there at the end and offered me a free replacement. I will now assume a completely new set up the replacement unit once again and hope that thus the problem is solved. If that is so, of course, the 4 star comes back. Will it report here.

Application:
We use the device on the network as Hauptfax and printer in a sales office with 2 employees. Device is available 24 hours / 7 days a week in operation.
Positives:
Everything here to read the product description works. The build quality is surprisingly good. Today this is not always the case with printers.
Negatives:
1)
There is no manual feed slot. This is only possible from the paper tray - in the office everyday life is often inconvenient
2)
Duplex copying and scanning is not - only print duplex
3)
The fax function has no manual numeric keys, only the touch screen - which can not necessarily recognize good in the pictures. Making the numbers right is a bit tedious. You have to listen carefully, that you do not accidentally hits a wrong number when faxing.
4)
Unfortunately divert incoming faxes to e-mail does not go - the Model 8600 Plus is the
5)
The operation via touchscreen is a bit strange
6)
For Windows printer drivers, there are only very limited possibilities of setting. The important things you will find that I know but a lot better from manufacturers such as OKI, CANON and BROTHER
7)
Papers are scanned over the top ADF Paper Input (eg for normal faxes) and then come out again are difficult to access. Lying here even a few already scanned pages to the printer it is then quickly close and there is a paper jam. This is not a good solution!
Conclusion:
For normal office applications, the HP Officejet Pro 8600 is to use well. To send faxes by entering the number is rather cumbersome and impractical.
Retrospectively I would probably now buy the model 8600 plus, but is more expensive, although apparently still has a few useful functions more.
However, we will keep the Officejet Pro 8600 and see how it is reflected here in the next few years in office.
If the fax function better than described by me above, I would give the unit 5 stars.
