Feel and build quality
************************
The equipment is high-quality and has no means cheap. There is a small button to turn the unit on or off and to check the state of charge which is visualized by four blue LEDs.
Furthermore, there is a lateral micro USB socket to power or charge the TripMate. On the end faces each have a standard USB port and an Ethernet port are available.
The connectivity and wireless operation are indicated by an additional small LED in green and blue. The black plastic housing is sufficiently stable and in piano finish.
Application
*********
Use as a charger: The TripMate has a Micro-USB (for charging the internal battery) and a standard USB output for charging external devices, such as mobile phones or tablets. The charging time for the TripMate approximately 7 hours, may with weakly designed USB ports / loaders also take considerably longer. The loading times for connected phones or tablets are about 2 - 3 hours. The internal battery will be a 18650 Li-Ion, more than 2,000 mAh is this probably not bring. Here love to cheat the seller.
Use as a wireless router: using an Ethernet cable of TripMate is connected directly to a router. The user interface is accessed by entering 10.10.10.254 in the address bar of the Internet browser. The UI is only available in English and two Asian languages. It is clearly structured and self-explanatory with a little understanding of IT. Although the latest firmware was installed, things do not go as smoothly as you want it. Every now and then there is a long hanger, occasionally appear in Notes Asian language, although English is selected. But these are rather cosmetic Fehlerchen that do not really affect the basic functionality. After completing the configuration, the router via wireless signals are transmitted via the TripMate. A non-wireless enabled router is therefore able to transmit signals wirelessly.
Use as a wireless repeater: A long press of the A / Ausschaltknopfes activate the TripMate and a wireless connection is established. The safety code is in the factory setting 11111111. Once the wireless connection is established, the UI is also achieved through the input of 10.10.10.254 in the address bar of the Internet browser. Now only the login information must still be entered for existing Wi-Fi network and the TripMate works as a repeater and can extend the reach of existing WLANs.
Theoretically you could use the device as a NAS, because you can share manage data of a connected USB data storage over the TripMate or. But for that there is definitely more powerful components, which is why I do not use this feature.
Conclusion
****
The Trip Mate is an affordable solution to traveling on a battery backup and be able to access a wireless range magnification. The build quality is good and the service is not rocket science. I can recommend the TripMate good conscience.
