3D Blu-ray home theater including FM radio

Samsung HT-H4500R 5.1 3D Blu-ray home theater system (500W, Smart TV) (Electronics)

Customer Review

First of all: this home theater system is not just a 3D Blu-ray player with amplifier and a set of speakers but a receiver, thus includes a (rather simple) FM tuner, so a radio, so you even without a running TV simply radio in amazing can hear good quality - but more on that later.

Like many others, I found the sound of the internal speakers of a Samsung TV (in my case a Samsung UE50H6270 (50 inches)) though as quite good but a bit narrow-chested. Particularly striking is the extreme differences make permanent readjustment in films with very silent soundtrack, in which the possibility of control TV simply no longer sufficient and especially in TV broadcasting with commercial breaks required.
A separate home cinema with beamer I have already added a center speaker, and thereby successfully solved the problem sometimes simply under continuous dialogues. However, "only" analog Dolby Surround beyond the digital world.

So had to be something that fits in the world of Full-HD, 3D, HDMI and Dolby Digital, as I could not even connect an old hi-fi system for lack of analog audio outputs to the TV. And I was tempted to buy a receiver like the Denon AVR-X1000, but the cost is not only twice but still needs all the speakers and has no BluRay player. Certainly that's what it is the better solution, but much more voluminous and multiple expensive. So I gave the Samsung HT-H4500R complete system a chance.

And what can I say? Wow! Suddenly a great TV is a great home theater!
As soon as I have set up and wired the system automatically turns on the TV. In combination with my Samsung UE50H6270 (50 inches) to take over thanks to Anynet + automatically the output of digital sound. The connection goes via HDMI cable if you connect the unit to HDMI 1 with ARC (Audio Return Channel). This means that everything that arrives as an audio signal in TV - is passed on via ARC to the receiver, including the sound of TV channels, external satellite receivers (set-top boxes), streaming services - from whatever source as Amazon Instant Video, media libraries, USB disks, USB flash drives and any connected game console. If you have a TV without ARC can alternatively (optical, fiber) use a Toslink cable.

### MP4, DLNA, Smart TV and 3D MKV ###
Actually, the BluRay player would have to limit themselves to playing 3D BluRays, but that does nowadays no longer a device. Always something more "smart TV", more connectivity and more fusion to the Internet. So also this device "Smart" offers functions and can draw on 4 streaming services.
Now my Samsung UE50H6270 can (50 inches) have just about everything when it comes to smart TV incl. USB Player, DLNA, and a so-called. Smart Hub with access to endless streaming services such as Amazon Instant Video, media libraries, web browser, games and movies, and is reflected in all disciplines very well, not least in that it is permanently enriched with updates about new features and improvements.
Only the issue of MKV (Matryoshka container) - have not been fully implemented - probably not quite unintentionally. Thus, the media player MKV files via DLNA refuses to play. Via USB it comes but. Only 3D MKVs (ie with additional MVC track (Multiview Video Coding)) are indeed playing, but not recognized as 3D. By converting to m2ts some 3D videos in 3D can be played, but not all!
Well I hoped so that a proven 3D Player with 3D material has no problems. But far from it. 3D MKVs will not play! Equally bad, that even MP4s be played if they are no larger than 4GB, which happens in the HD area fast times. The conversion in m2ts brings the unit on, these are completely ignored via USB. Thus my hope smashes a 3D specialist and I focus on the remaining functions.
When it comes to smart TV it can the Samsung UE50H6270 (50 inches) not even remotely reach the water, because few solid apps are installed (Amazon Instant Video is not included) and you can re-install any additional apps. Why do I need as an internet connection ...?
(Installed apps: Netflix, YouTube, Hotlist Internet TV, AccuWeather, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook)

Ok, since we have so gripped by and actually had the device again on the way back in the box to be sent back to Amazon.

But first it should still show what it has so it acoustically. This was aware that I would get to hear any specialized receiver with selected components and a high-quality speaker landscape (I used Mal Pas, amplifiers and mixers built).
Ludicrous withered loudspeaker cable with tiny color-coded Steckerchen on the one hand, which are firmly connected to the boxes (or more precisely, the cables are soldered directly to the speaker chassis). This prevents on the one hand, that could prolong for rear speakers with 7m arg short geratenen cable (even in a small room one might indeed lay the cable along the wall and do not stretch across the room), on the other hand you can but also nothing wrong connect. For the nominal 80 watts, which should afford all the speakers except the subwoofer (100W), the spindly cables are actually a joke, you but looks at the consumption data of 55 Watt of the whole system, then of course it is clear that there is usually only a few watts the speaker must arrive (3 Ohms), ie the cable cross-section is okay. Only the subwoofer I would have expected more.

Yes, but how does that sound part now?
Basically, I was with the sound of the Samsung UE50H6270 (50 inches) was quite happy, but sometimes simply suffers the intelligibility of dialogue. When the TV is now also the HT-H4500R automatically but with a and are after a fairly long pause then the TV sound again. This normal stereo material does not appear as crisp as from the TV speakers (there I got to the multiband equalizer already a transparent overall sound created) but it is noticeable that less volume dialogues much better, softer and reproduced warmer are while the stereo signal fills the room. That is in itself very nice.
But now suddenly noticed that many of the flagship stations (ARD, ZDF, RTL, SAT1, Pro7 and all HD channels) broadcast in Dolby Digital and feature films and series are transmitted in 5.1. And WOW! In fact, you find yourself suddenly in the middle of the action. Clearer dialogue, noticeable bass and music is suddenly a disturbing the bulky sound without the dialogues.
The on the remote control on the bottom left button to quickly switch between TV audio speaking and receiver's a slap in the face! Since one of the previously perceived as good TV speakers is only really aware of how bad actually. And already there is no turning back!
Something bad is that it (the button located right next to it) although can choose between several presets, but otherwise no sound modification is possible, not even treble / bass. Once you are not home theater freak who immediately gets throat cancer without speaker calibration, then you can with the following presets but live quite well:

DSPOFF: Select this for normal listening.
CINEMA (cinema): Creates a realistic powerful sound for movie playback.
MUSIC (Music): Suitable for all music sources.
GAME (Game): Suitable for video games and produces a powerful sound.
M-STEREO (Multi Stereo): Creates a surround sound for stereo sound sources.
POWER BASS: Emphasizes low sounds.
LOUD: Improves sound characteristics for deep tones depending on the volume.
NIGHT: Optimizes sound for listening at night by compressing the dynamic range (soft sound).

Lack room analysis system you have to set up the speakers in the (On TV) menu manually in volume and distance. This is actually quite good and can be checked with a test tone (noise). However, it would be better by a mile, if you could hear the test tone during (!) The adjustment process, or at least the sound would play the TV. But no, it is virtually blind (actually deaf) something and can then check after a few clicks on the remote. This is easily solved stupid. But even so, you get it at some point down (or is content with a reasonably acceptable setting).

On a positive note that the small Lautsprecherchen firstly by a bulky magnet are quite heavy, on the other hand, the speaker diaphragm by a sturdy metal grille (painted perforated plate) are protected, which I would not expect in this price range. The housing itself have a recess, with which one can simply attach a doweled into the wall plug (the principle familiar to most of your router or similar small appliances) at the rear. Thus, they may not align perfectly with the handset, but this perfection no one will ask for at this price and if they do you can even invest in additional wall brackets.

What bothers me a bit is that the built-in fan independent of load switches to an audible speed, once you reach the volume level 20. Up to 19 can not hear anything, from 20 (max. 50) you can hear the fan also of 3 meters, which only really quiet passages or complete tranquility, but perceptible, because at 20 is actually already reached a fairly high volume levels. Only if (again) extremely quiet BluRay soundtracks many blockbusters have to give further turn up, but then you will anyway mostly that it crashes right!

Also disturbing is the strong drive noise on Disc beginning (here the speed is due to the recording of the disc center to the outside just above) that wraps but once the first few minutes are flickered on the TV screen.

### FM Radio ###
Almost by chance, caught my eye - while the unit was in transit - that an FM antenna is included. This means that as an analog radio with built is (well, somewhere there must indeed be a difference between a receiver (receiver) and an amplifier, but which totally ignore some manufacturers and receiver without radio sell).
That made me happy really because I wanted to banish an old mini-stereo system with a defective CD player out of my field of vision, which was actually used only thanks to an external antenna for a bit of radio listening. Without external antenna is here in the country hardly possible reception. I thought at least!
After plugging the FM wire antenna (actually only a 2m long wire) and adjusting the frequency of the favorite station, I had a trouble-free and noise-free reception! Grandiose! Perfect! And moreover a richer sound, with the multi-stereo preset also from the rear speakers.
The only thing that is somewhat interfere little intuitive and hardly traceable storage of sending as favorites. No matter, I hear anyway only one transmitter; o)

Handling is great, because I can turn on the unit by means of the FB or directly on the device and can easily switch to FM radio (how many devices these days have ever even hardware buttons for something?), When switching on the TV, the device switches automatically FM radio on "D IN", thus the digital input of the TV sound. When you turn off the TV, the system switches automatically from, insofar as these arose "D IN", in Radio mode (or AUX) it does not respond to the FB TV. Actually logical, right?

Negatives:
- Minimum LED segment display
- No equalizer (only presets)
- No treble and bass controls
- No adjustment with active sound source (test noise or film sound)
- Audible fan from volume level 20 (load-independent)
- Will not play 3D MKVs
- Plays no major MP4s (> 4GB) from
- Strong running noise at disc start
- No Amazon Instant Video

Positives:
- Sturdy metal grille covers
- Built-in simple wall mount
- Simple FM radio
- Super Cheap 5.1 sound
- Perfect cooperation with Anynet + devices (eg Samsung TVs)

Conclusion:
This is not a high-end home theater system, but who that in view of competing with simple SoundBar price expected suffering from loss of reality. Here you get next to an acceptable 5.1 sound even a 3D Blu-ray player, a (limited) Smart TV and a simple FM radio. Anyone who is not quite satisfied with the sound of his new super-slim LED TVs, which can add a great (for TV proportions) surround sound for little money the great picture here. Really, thus makes watching movies the same again so much fun!
