Customer Review

The soundtrack to the game "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" is electronically dominated music. The composer Michael McCann has chosen rather calm sounds of the game, but they are broken every now and then by driving rhythms. In the quiet passages occur mainly soundscapes produced, that is, there are few clearly structured melodies and distinctive rhythms. The music works more like a collage. Comparable is the score with the Mass Effect games. The electronic system is enriched by numerous, oriental-style vocal samples. Every now and then penetrate classical instruments the cold sound framework and bring some warmth in the music, for example, in the play "Home". Even rarer is a gentle chorus to the fore, especially in "Penthouse" This is clear.

The Canadian is not one of the great composers, which everyone knows. Yet he is not a blank slate, wrote next to some soundtracks for video games and music for TV and cinema, is also a sound designer. The reviewed here Soundtrack He really made me very excited. I do not think the game would have become what it is if not this soundtrack would have been used. McCann has managed to capture the Blade Runner-esque, dystopian atmosphere of the game in music and to let them make them more intense.
This works even without playing the game straight ... and that's really been the biggest surprise for me! When I bought the OST here, I did not expect that music can so good step back in the game, because by the sound-scale structures, there is little, indeed no eingängien melodies that stay in the memory. But the music recreates the atmosphere that has also awarded the game itself. However, the absence of "real" melodies also means that the music should not casually run in the background. Because then it works just trivial and monotonous.

I for one am really glad to have decided to purchase this score, because thus I call now a soundtrack my own, which is among the best, what I got to hear in movie and game in recent years.
A great achievement, Mr. McCann!
