I (there good reviews already so much to) until yesterday the "normal" Desire've used, I will not go into great on the "general" software / operating system (Android 2.2 Froyo with HTC Sense), since it does not make any significant differences are between the Desires.
My only motive to switch from Desire to Desire Z was the hoped-for "added value" of a real QWERTY keyboard.
Scope of supply:
First of all, it comes as the "normal" Desire also, in a very small box. In addition to the HTC Desire Z are already engaged in itself, in which the battery and an 8GB MicroSD, you get a "charging plug", a USB cable and a couple of headphones and some Zettelkram.
Look, feel & more:
The device makes a very sophisticated look, really solid build quality, gaps are optimal and even the battery cover (metal) budge. Also the Z-lid has (seen from the front: up / down) on the side as well as a game. Unfortunately, this is not a strong "snap mechanism", allowing the display at certain positions (z. B. when the user lies on his back and the device too much tends to be) only by its own weight and gravity to hang to "fold back "has. How long can survive the Flex band, which releases between keyboard and display unit "swings", I can not say.
What seat where:
Top of the unit is the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the power button. The camera button located on the right side (the display portion) and the opening slide of the battery (the keyboard part). Downstairs is just the microphone. Links We have quite a generous volume rocker and including the USB port. On the back camera are including light. To the right of the speaker, which sits under the battery lid (small slit with grid available).
On the front of the Notification LED, which can light up in different colors hidden behind the long-drawn grid for Höhrerlautsprecher. Directly below the display (exactly the same of Desires: resolution, etc.) are the androidtypischen keys, unlike the Desire, it is now "soft-touch keys". Among them is the optical trackpad which now visually and the Bold looks from BlackBerry 9700.
The Keyboard:
The four-line keyboard keys are a good size, generous spacing (ideal for large hands) to each other and a pleasant lighting. Due to the rubber coating the pressure point feels a little "spongy" when one compares it, for. Example by a Nokia E71 or BB 9700, but he's not at a second glance. "FN" ie function keys (for double occupancy of the keys), and Shift keys in duplicate (right and left) present what I consider just as pleasant feel as the presence of the tab, the menu button and two freely programmable "Quick Launch Buttons" (right the space bar). Software default can be the way not only the two keys, but any other key on the keyboard show with programs! Also handy that the "@" can be in contrast to the "normal" PC keyboard, directly elected. It can be determined Write passable it with a little practice.
If one uses the TS keyboard, the "Word Completion tool" to be activated as soon as you open the QWERTY, it is practically disabled.
Bluetooth:
Software default, the device is the Desire totally similar words. What I found funny: When the Bluetooth settings, the device "HTC Vision" was called (Yeah, I know, but with us it is nunmal Z)!
Furnishings:
After inserting the SIM card of the usual "Setup Wizard" comes. Ran like always from easily and relaxed.
htcsense.com:
HTC touts the Desire Z and Desire HD with the new Sense (to be also replenished for normal Desire). Should one be connected to the phone (after registration), read text messages, install apps, edit contacts, the device places, lock, or let the phone ring on the side htcsense.com.
Did everything properly activated. Then with the laptop on the Homepage and go: SMS could not, device types do not (although activated in Desire Z), contacts I could not see well, lock device went well, I could not leave but it ring. Just think, the service has yet to be optimized a bit, is holding relatively new.
E-mail:
Although it is said in advertising that all messages go to an inbox, you can also select which email accounts fortunately still single!
Interim conclusion:
Absolutely great device, such as the Desire also, but:
- I personally liked the Hardwareandroidtasten (below the display) of Desires better.
- The Z hinge would be "harder" set (for there is also a star less), not damits snaps shut by itself. I use my smartphone also like to lie in.
- Would be my HTC 7 Pro (from a hardware perspective, not from the OS) might even have been better than the five lines Z. The keyboard and the Sildermechanismus the 7 Pro make my opinion a "sinnigeren" impression.
Conclusion:
Now it is as it is, with its 180 grams, the Z is not exactly a lightweight. Of course, it's a nice device, but the only advantage compared to the Desire is and will remain "only" the keyboard. For me personally, very convenient, although it would probably be good to have both devices.
This is only my personal opinion based on my subjective impressions!
