This film from 1991, is an absolute exceptional work in many ways and is by its nature and subject all alone in the big movie landscape. This film is probably really one of the few who can call themselves Indian film. Here the Indians are all played by real Indians and not by Italians or Yugoslavs, also are the costumes, the canoes, the traditions, the language, the culture, the food, and much more has been shown where as faithfully as almost nowhere. The story is hard, realistic, sober and very sad. The image of violence is simply breathtaking and leaves a film simply often only look with an open jaw. The message of the film is clear, simple but also very profound. The absolute no understanding of Europeans towards a primitive people is very well brought over here. The actors are all very compelling and contribute very strongly to the intense atmosphere of the film. I'm waiting now wringing their hands on a German DVD release of a film so valuable.
