Very quality Bluetooth Keyboard for (almost) all mobile operating systems

As the owner and user of a lively Samsung Galaxy S4 and an iPad Air (a combination that will surely be used more often), the Universal Mobile Keyboard piqued my interest. Because Microsoft touts especially with the OS switcher, through which the keyboard can be used both with Android as well as iOS and Windows 8 / RT.

Processing and appearance
The keyboard is very compact failed (a little wider than my iPad) and feels immensely valuable and solid in the hand. The cover is coated with a soft rubber material that has real flatterer qualities. My concerns about the susceptibility to dirt soft surface were dispelled when I could wipe out not just on a clinically clean garden table a few dirt tracks only by hand without residue after use. The lid is very stable and protects the keyboard from damage. Overall, the combination of keyboard / cover very solid and high-quality works.

Cover = Stand
The cover can be opened up and the keyboard on this one. In a holder at the bottom of the cover to smartphones or tablets can insert, which are then available at a comfortable angle to the keyboard. But this works only up to a thickness of 10 mm devices (so stated by the manufacturer) - my 11 mm thick Acer Iconia A-510 could be in the groove tend not without tipping. The wafer-thin iPad Air and my Galaxy S4 held against bombproof in the holder.

Cover removable
The beauty of the cover is the fact that it is held in place by a magnetic holder on the keyboard housing and therefore is removable. So you can set up the keyboard, the tablet / smartphone at any distance and / or angle. After use, the cover snaps easy and elegant again and can close then.

Keys and layout
The keys have to be taken well in spite of the compact dimensions, since sufficient distance between the key caps is available. The pressure point is clearly tangible - Write messages is really very relaxed by hand, much better than using the onscreen keyboard. The buttons are rectangular, not round like some other models, and the layout is identical to ordinary standards, and especially the straight alignment of the rows of keys does not require getting used to. Very good writing feel.

Special keys / hot keys
Besides the standard keys, the keyboard also has some special keys such as Home, Lock / Unlock, Search, Mute, volume and media playback. This function thanks to the OS switch (more on "Multiple coupling") with different operating systems.

Setup and compatibility
Both the current iPad Air as well as my older Acer Tablet (Android 4.1, BT 2.1) and the Galaxy S4 smartphone (Android 4.4, BT 4.0) the coupling and contact went in a few seconds by hand. Thus, the keyboard appears to cover a wide range of operating systems and Bluetooth versions.

Multiple coupling / OS switcher
With the OS switcher, the coupling data can be called and the modifier keys work with the respective operating systems. Then bring me the home button both iOS and Android to the home screen, and the magnifying glass button launches either a Google (Android), or iPad search (iOS). The media player works on all devices - the iPad even without explicitly calling iTunes. If you press Play is just the next song played in song or playlist without the app opens.

However, the otherwise excellent keyboard loses a star here in the vote: For each OS to only one device can be coupled and switch - in my case, the "Windows" position of the switch for lack of Windows Tablet unused broke. If I want to use for example, my Android tablet and my Android smartphone alternately, I have to re-pair the devices always. The current flowing via AC switch between S4 smartphone and iPad on the other hand works quickly and faultlessly.

Energy supply
It is nice that the Universal Mobile Keyboard has a built-in battery - USB charging cable is included. So you can charge the keyboard fast times on a PC or tablet and does not need to worry about batteries. The keyboard comes in a charged state into the house and can also be equal to use.

Price-Performance
The keyboard is just under 80 euros not cheap pleasure, but the price is justified by the good workmanship, the high value, the great functionality, good cover with built-in stand and power supply through the built-in battery. Even the very low weight and compact dimensions are top for mobile use. Overall a very well-balanced and highly recommended device for those who want to enter on your tablet or smart phone often times longer texts.
