The scope of supply:
-----------------
The S4 mini comes in a stylish package in wood look. The package is in addition to the smartphone with a headset with different attachments, a charger cable with an associated power supply and a quick start guide to get you started.
Design / Processing:
----------------------
Design it is technically the name suggests, that Samsung has not come up here much new can. But that was not necessary. The S4 Mini is a small image of the great S4 with minimal changes.
The device, with its 107 grams with a 4.3-inch display is very comfortable to hold and processing Technically feels very valuable to. The entire display can be operated without any major problems with one hand. The gaps make a good impression and offer little room for dust or other debris.
Something disturbed me the smooth back of the S4 Mini. At slightly sweaty hands of the user feels an immediate worsening of the haptics. With a rough surface Samsung could have prevented this problem.
Display / processor / camera / storage / battery / Connectivity
-------------------------------------------------- -
The 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 960x540 pixels dissolves. This so-called qHD resolution provides advantages in the extended battery life, however, disadvantages in the pixel density. My impression of the display is therefore mediocre, especially smaller texts can be significantly less sharp than for example with a proper HD display read. Overall, the blur falls at a point or another to clear. Colors and contrasts appear very crisp, the maximum brightness is in direct comparison to other smartphones in this price range even mediocre. At maximum brightness and direct sunlight the display is difficult to read. Recently, I have already tested the HTC One Mini (see my reviews). Compared Samsung hangs when S4 Mini in terms of display significantly behind.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor gives the S4 Mini enough power for smooth operating speed. Current and future applications and games make for the Mini is not a problem. In the benchmark, the smartphone can be proud. In known Antutu 14313 points were achieved.
The Mini comes with a 8 megapixel camera on the back and a 1.9 MP camera on the front. The camera on the front of the smartphone is sufficient for video telephony. The 8 megapixel sensor on the back looks good. Videos are recorded in Full HD. My pictures taken had a slight greenish tint, but all was not too serious. Overall I like the camera's performance good, but one should not expect miracles in low light conditions.
In terms of space are 8 GB of internal storage space. However, this can be up to 64 GB increased (through a microSD card). This is a big advantage compared to many other smartphones.
Even the battery is replaceable and therefore offers a great advantage to other smartphones in the same price range. With 1900 mAh about 5-6 hours of run time can be achieved with intensive use. This is not outstandingly good, but a normal value in this smartphone size.
The S4 is a wireless mini-artists. With LTE, WLAN a / b / g / n, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.0 nothing to be desired here. Whether this plethora of wireless options in everyday life is really used probably depends on the particular user, but I find the integration very strong.
Software / OS
-------------------------
Establishments, the S4 Mini with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Adjusted by Samsung operating system works something overloaded. Although everything works super fluently but some apps are pre-installed that are required by the fewest users. The TouchWiz interface Samsung uses for own smartphones. Noticeable are the changes in the system settings, here the submenus have been divided into four separate menus: My Device, accounts, options and connections.
Overall, the custom software is a matter of taste and of course can be customized by each user.
Conclusion:
------
When looking at the product details: LTE, NFC, IR port, Wi-Fi in all standards, replaceable battery, microSD slot and a fast Snapdragon 400 processor to the prospective buyer of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is fast dizzy. All the Samsung has packed in a compact 4.3-inch smartphone. The Super AMOLED display provides crisp colors and contrasts indeed are, however, depends in terms of resolution and pixel density somewhat behind.
Processing acts on wertig for themselves, but tell me the smooth back not to the S4 Mini.
Unbeatable advantages offer the countless (above) interfaces as well as the replaceable battery and the Micro-SD memory upgradeable.
For the former RRP of 529 euros I would not have bought the S4 Mini, but the unit for about 300 Euro in terms of price / performance in the size can not be beat.
Alternatively, the HTC One Mini is available. This I have already been thoroughly tested (see my reviews). For sound and / or display fetishists HTC One Mini is more appropriate. However, there are also some disadvantages compared to the mini S4.
Look before buying the best one to test two devices and try (if possible), both from themselves.
