Hello,
Have you ever asked the question, why do you take pictures?
Is that Aunt Emma and neighbors to show vacation photos, how far away was it, etc. - or are you heading to something completely different?
There are: mood lighting, and especially photographic enjoyment?
If so, then the NEX 3N is just right, I've never had one, compared to the sensor size so small and yet so powerful camera. I had four Months EOS 650D (2 months was around only at home, because too large), and 5 months a RX100 (lack of folding screen for ground-level shots and solid appearance made me then but to take this step). And neither can the NEX 3N hold a candle, in image quality, flexibility and features.
This applies of course only for me, the folding screen I had missed, a real wide-angle lens as well, the 'bracketing' the RX100 had nothing but mockery (to +/- 2/3 stop increments). Not to miss I wanted practical flash, the mach can also flash indirectly, any more than a good panorama mode, and do not forget the 'Hand-held Twilight' mode. I sometimes still tend to automatic: works pretty well, just too fast higher photosensitivity is claimed, as with most automatics.
Pro:
1) The camera is well made, even if gaps are visible especially in the white camera. But nothing creaks, everything is secure.
2) The flash is anyway a miracle, something more flexible than the RX100. One can thus not upwards and even a slight angle flash back. Man, the 'flash compensation' fine dosing, but you need the flash anyway rarely.
3) the image quality: for this I gave even my RX100 ago, and I have no regrets. Camera still produces better, less noisy and more detailed photos, I look at my photos on the monitor, even in 1: 1, drives me mad, so damn well resolved are the images of reality.
4) the optics: the SEL 1650 for my claims ok, I've yet to buy the SEL 55210, so for now I'm busy for the next few years. The missing macro function of the lens is the only downer.
5) the folding screen: just open and fold down easily. Overhead I photograph rare, so I'm not from a corresponding lack of inclination of the display.
6) the most amazing feature for me is the exposure bracketing up to +/- 3 stops !!! Lechz !!! The HDR mode is also to +/- 3 stops, at last really usable and no gimmick!
7) Exposure in panorama mode
Cons:
1) Operation is not necessarily intuitive and required training time, especially some menu items are a bit too cumbersome to call, but at least there's a function key for up to 6 different functions, similar to the Panasonic Quickmenu or the like.
2) no exposure at 'Hand-held Twilight'.
3) Supply: no charger (which I had already times ... in the RX100)
Although the monitor may be less resolution, the Multi Frame Noise Reduction gibts really only the 'Hand-held Twilight' mode, and the lens (the Kitzoom) also has no aperture of 1.8. But for me that is not really important, the camera's ok, exactly as it is
Conclusion: the camera is a stunner! After I had the 20 cameras since 2004, I finally ended up with the NEX 3N. I had bought it mainly because of the large sensor, the folding screen and because of the price - thanks to Sony Cashback in June EUR 343, -. A real find!
I take the NEX 3N not everywhere with, as always-this camera I have the TZ31, but the photo tours with the NEX 3N are always longer than I intended. 'A photo yet ....' Lechz! Yipppiiiiie! It must have love.
I hope I could help you with the review a bit.
Best Regards,
Christian Semmler
